What is life like in France now?

France now has over 7000 cases a day and it’s a fair bet we are just following them a few weeks behind. What is life like in France now in terms of restrictions?

Following. I have friends in Paris. They say they're back working in the office most days (were WFH prevously). They have to wear masks all the time but aside from that life feel pretty normal for them. Apparently French Gov are due to make an announcement this evening though so things may be about to change.

Currently in France. Masks mandated in streets in some areas. Hospitals starting to fill up. Sloppy mask wearing in some places but big fines for non adherence. Tourist areas still very busy. Read some Lycees closing. Not French so only what I’m reading with my GCSE level French 😆. Announcement Friday I think. The communication here is far better eg I can easily search number of new cases per day by area and get info on rough ages, if locals or tourist etc.

@Oaktree55

Any chance you could point me in the direction of that link?

I agree that the info available here is very comprehensive and up to date, but I haven't seen anything with ages/tourists etc.

We had a lot of tourists over the summer and have now become a red zone so it would be interesting to know.

Does anyone know if the announcement is planned for today or tomorrow?

@anuffername

This is what I meant but it’s only for Corsica

I think there’s similar elsewhere but don’t have to hand

Oaktree55 · 10/09/2020 15:22

@anuffername if you scroll through then often it will say x tourists x locals etc and if young etc

We are in a part of France where cases are still relatively low but rising. In our département (county) there are four people in hospital which is three more than last week. We all wear masks in shops but not compulsory (yet) outside. Children are in school, no problem with appointments for doctors, opticians etc. The local regional health authority gives detailed information twice a week including the R rate, cases per 100,000, pressure on hospital beds (low) etc. There is lots of information on free testing sessions locally held in various locations. It feels as if the regional and local authorities have a good grip on things and the messaging is clear and consistent.
We are over 70 so being very cautious, but we feel safe and well looked after.

I am in a red zone, no changes except masks to be worn in bigger towns outside and bars and restaurants close early - life carrying in as normal except for mask wearing. I go to the gym, restaurants,play tennis , met friends etc as normal Alarmed at the cases rising and bewildered by laid back attitude among my french friends - they just say we have to get on with it. i read rumours of changes this morning but from what I read it seemed to be a relaxing of the numbers of days you have to isolate to even more a relaxing of the rules. Some talk of new measures but i cant find anything atm. Whilst the situation is critical here and needs to improve it feels ok.

Announcement is tomorrow.

Frenchfancy · 10/09/2020 16:33

Other than masks and the lack of village fetes life is pretty normal.

New announcement due tomorrow which may shut my business down so am waiting for change.
