My 4 year old who has some medical issues and development delays regularly gets high temps I've been keeping track he has around 2 a month.
last night his temp shot up to 38.4 it's 4am in the morning I've just checked him it's 37.8 . THe temps normally last 24 hours with no other symptoms and he's been having them about a year now. His peadiatricain doesn't seem to be concerned .

He started reception this week and i have warned them about it but now im panicking on what I should do I can guarantee it won't be covid I know him inside and out and this is p a regular occurrence . But i know the school recptionsist will probably say i need to get him tested he also has a sister in the same school what am I meant to do about her being in school .I don't drive my husband is away .my elderly parents are at risk. I cant get a test for him anywhere locally or the home test kits . I'm actually really panicking right now both the kids attendance for the year will be abismal if we have to take them out for 2 weeks every time he gets one of his high temp episodes.....

possibly dehydration? top him up with extra fluids?

userghki · 10/09/2020 04:42

You don't know it isn't covid.

You will need to arrange a test or keep him home.

Spinakker · 10/09/2020 06:40

Well just keep quiet about it, what else can you do. You can't be testing him all the time.

The school aren't taking the kids temperatures are they? I'd just not have said anything to the school.

joystir59 · 10/09/2020 06:43

Your boy needs to get his education

SexTrainGlue · 10/09/2020 06:49

You need to get good at taking test swabs.

Because even if you know he is feverishly frequently, you can never know for sure that a symptom isn't Covid.

And all DC need their education, so keeping the symptomatic out of school until Covid is ruled out is vitally important.

In tandem, see your GP/specialist again to talk through how to manage this. If they are prepared to write a letter outlining an alternative explanation and that temperature won't mean Covid in your DC, then you can crack on. But I'm sure you can see why schools are not happy with unsupported word of parent on this

Porcupineinwaiting · 10/09/2020 06:54

Why would your elderly parents be at risk from your son if you are so sure he doesnt have COVID?

My DC are having their temperatures taken twice a day at school so they could be taking OP's son's temperature at school.

So, keep trying for a test. Get his doctor to arrange a note for the future, my Head said medical conditions were reasonable for exemptions. My son develops a cough a lot which is not anything diagnosed, so I foresee a long road of testing ahead for us. My DH is vulnerable, so I know that vulnerable parents and children care hoping parents don't take this threat too lightly. They're counting on us all to make good decisions since the gov have threatened everyone with fines for non attendance.

Lax attitudes towards this is exactly how it'll enter schools and cause bigger disruptions.
