Must leave contact details

They are saying pubs cafes etc must leave contact details. I noticed in costa they had a barcode thing to scan at each table. But no one is enforcing this or clear on what app you are supposed to be using. Or indeed what to do if no smart phone.

What have you seen in other places? I’ve not been anywhere else so hard to guess.

I won't do it at the places where they have a sheet to fill in on a table somewhere near the bar or entrance. I don't want my contact details readily available to everyone else in the pub. Am sure that must be in breach of GDPR.
Will give details when booking a table/QR code.

@escocesita

You don’t need an app. Just open your iPhone camera and point it at the QR code.
Not everyone has a blooming iPhone. There are other phones!!

My DH doesn't have a smartphone so I guess he'll either have to use paper and pen (but someone will have to TOUCH it - oh no) or be banned from cafes etc. Or go with me, because I do have one Grin.

And if you don’t have a mobile?

Mind you The hairdressers had a pen and paper - to me that sounded like a gdpr nightmare

We had our National Trust membership cards scanned in a National Trust cafe for T&T

But the OP does, who is the person I was trying to help.

Not to mention every customer handling the same pen...

It doesn't sound like much is changing. Some places had no track and trace system in place at all, so this law is making sure they do. Places can still just leave a QR code or email address lying around for customers but that doesn't mean everyone would use it.

TheSeedsOfADream · 10/09/2020 09:10

Hopefully it will be more constant with the new legislation.
At one point in my town there were about 11 cases and 6 of them were traced back to having been to the same 18th birthday party in a different town. None of them were symptomatic so could have been in turn infecting others. (Not UK)

Wow!

  1. Not everyone has an iPhone
  2. Older smart phones do not automatically read QR codes
  3. Not everyone has a smart phone
  4. Not everyone who has a smart phone uses all the facilities, so may not know what to do with a QR code even if they download a QR code reader.

Oh, and I forgot:

5 Not everyone who has a smartphone is willing to connect to a public wifi to enter personal details, and if they're PAYG they may not be used to using the phone connection.
