Did anyone's symptoms start as a cold?

Me DH and DD all developed colds a few days ago. Just sneezing a lot, blocked nose and just feeling generally not well. I read it is very unlikely to be Covid 19 with such symptoms. However we have now all lost our sense of taste and DD has abit of a cough. Based on this we have ordered home test kits.
Reading up it still seems unlikely due to it starting as a cold. But just wondered if anyone here tested positive who had more cold symptoms?

Bumping this for you, as last couple of days DP has come down with a raging sore throat but no other symptoms and he seems to have now passed it to me - although mine is just scratchy for now. Both a bit sneezy too. Just carrying on as normal though as obviously these symptoms don’t qualify for a test..

I had a sore throat. No temperature or anything else. On day 3 it turned into a head cold and went to my sinuses. Sore throat went and it stayed a mild cold for a week. All gone now. Never had a temperature or loss of taste. Tested positive

Jontysmum · 09/09/2020 20:31

Oh and nobody else in the family have shown symptoms

UntamedWisteria · 09/09/2020 20:31

Yup. DS girlfriend just had cold symptoms but tested positive.

2 of my nephews just had slightly runny noses and their dad just had a head cold. All 3 tested positive - they only tested because my sister and another nephew were suddenly really ill and hospitalised.

I am currently teaching in aclass of 32. Of whom, about 1/3 have"colds". I hope.

A friend had very similar symptoms, very sneezy, tired and lost sense of taste whilst on leave and recovered perfectly fine with a few weeks off and no worsening of symptoms, sense of taste now fine. She has had an antibody test (nhs professional) and has antibodies so definitely had it, plus could trace onset to contact with a patient who had a relative with the virus, so I think you are right to do your tests.

I think we have all been conditioned to believe it's a big dramatic virus. I've had far worse colds. If I hadn't had a positive test I would have just carried on as normal.

No mine started with a really sore throat. Never had snotty nose or anything like that.

HildegardeCrowe · 09/09/2020 22:02

Have had a cough and sore throat, had a test today and waiting for the result...,

findingschools4myboys · 09/09/2020 22:40

Yes! Mine started with constant sneezing and runny nose. This was early March so didn’t think related as it was back then considered a “dry” illness.
I have had several antibody tests, latest on last week - blood drawn and I Still have antibodies so definitely had it.

Those people who just had "colds" and tested positive - did you also get coughs?

DressingGownofDoom · 09/09/2020 23:03

I've been wondering this too. I have a bit of what I suppose you could term a dry cold - tired, headache, tickly cough and a slightly blocked nose. I was tested yesterday and still waiting for results.

Porcupineinwaiting · 09/09/2020 23:09

I moved from a cold straight into covid so it is possible that I had some cold symptoms to begin with but, in my case, the COVID symptoms were pretty distinctive and un-coldy.

But you know, one of the weird things about this bug is how varied it is. I think you are wise to test given your loss of taste.

BewilderedDoughnut · 09/09/2020 23:34

Wondering this now. Got a raging sore throat suddenly this evening with no other symptoms. Feels like the beginning of a common cold but different somehow! 🤔
