Has anyone been to one of these big museums in the last few weeks under the new Covid setup? How crowded are they? I know that they are limiting numbers and you have to apply for tickets in advance, but did you feel that the numbers were set sufficiently low for full social distancing to be possible? I went to an (outdoor) attraction that required pre-booking due to limited numbers but the number of tickets they issued were such that it felt really crowded anyway. I would be happy to visit a big museum (masked) if there were low enough numbers that it was easy to keep well away from others, especially one where the rooms are large with high ceilings so that you are unlikely to be breathing much of the same air as other people, but if they are issuing thousands of tickets that's a different matter.

We did the science if you go go first thing you get a timed ticket but no limit on when you leave so they get busy later. Science you have to book the kids gallant but separate (but always did) otherwise it was cleaned and the kids had loads of fun with it being soo much emptier than normal. You need a mask obviously!

Hi, I've been to both the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum with the kids this summer - was so enjoyable we went back again to both! I did feel it was possible to stay away from people most of the time, there are a few pinch points for example at the Earthquake simulator in NHM, but for the most part it was great. If you go to the Science Museum later in the day they are quieter too, we had the Space Gallery (well all the galleries) to ourselves around 4pm. I also saw lots of cleaning going on, particularly at the NHM but also at the Science Museum. I'll link to my micro reviews: NHM is here www.instagram.com/p/CDizJ_VHWto/?igshid=12r0pfiraahnb and SCM is here www.instagram.com/p/CEBg_cyH-eV/?igshid=13sfyzkjyc6lj. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Just saw you were asking about the British Museum too, here's my review for that www.instagram.com/p/CEBg_cyH-eV/?igshid=13sfyzkjyc6lj. I would arrive as close to closing time as you can, we went about 1030 and had queues to get in where people weren't staying far apart enough and the galleries were busy. Later in the afternoon it was really quiet and much easier to stay apart. In terms of numbers I've read in an industry magazine that museums have about 15% of visitor numbers compared to usual summers, which might give you a better idea of what to expect.

Sorry, link didn't copy, this is the British Museum review I wrote www.instagram.com/p/CEZhKiqHrx2/?igshid=1pqo8l9t8w6b7

A lot of the children's stuff is closed at the Science Museum or at least has been both times I have been. So the Basement and Pattern Pod were closed. It's still worth going though as it's not busy at all. The security guard told us they're permitted to allow 4000 visitors a day. Bookings are made online and were fully booked but I would expect it not to be as busy now that school has resumed. The big downside is wearing a mask as it can get very warm but that's the save as anywhere.

I've been to the British Museum and it was fine :-) The galleries are so big and airy, it never felt crowded. Sometimes I had entire rooms to myself! NB they've only opened the ground-floor galleries at the moment, but it's still a good place to visit - I had my first experience of being able to stand in front of the Rosetta Stone and having a clear view, without there being crowds between (very short!) me and the case, which was pretty special.
