I tested negative, but..

Had a test at the weekend as DP had been in contact with a positive case. Results received yesterday and was negative.

However this morning my throat is killing, it feels like it's on fire and I'm coughing. My chest is also very sore.

Do I need another test or should I take it that I do not have it and this is just a coincidence?

I’d get another test as you now have symptoms

bleuu · 08/09/2020 12:08

@ButterflyBitch Thanks. So it is possible that I have developed it since Saturday? Ugh I feel so shitty Sad think I will struggle getting a test as I'm in a very high risk area but will try

Why did you test without having any symptoms? That’s not what the guidelines tell you to do.

You have a new cough now. Now you need a test.

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 12:10

You should never have taken a test without symptoms. If you have contact with a case you isolate for 14 days. A negative test does not shorten this period as it is the incubation period

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 12:11

sorry, your dp should be isolating for 14 days and neither of you should test without symptoms

StatisticalSense · 08/09/2020 12:15

So you wasted a test at the weekend and now need another one, meanwhile your DP has presumably been ignoring the need to self isolate after contact with a positive case.
People like the OP are exactly why there are no tests available for those who actually need them and why the virus is spreading in the community.

MaxNormal · 08/09/2020 12:17

Why does everyone have to be so snippy? I would have assumed a test is needed if you're contact-traced, I'm sure OP thought she was being responsible.

bleuu · 08/09/2020 12:18

We were told by Test & Trace to get a test, which I did do. I can't see that I've done anything wrong here?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 12:18

if you are contact traced they will tell you to isolate, not take a pointless test

bailey999 · 08/09/2020 12:20

My sister was contacted by track and trace and told to take a test as she had been in contact with a confirmed case. I dont know if this is a new thing or not.

bleuu · 08/09/2020 12:20

@dementedpixie I am in a high risk area so maybe the guidelines are different? As DP was the one who was in contact with a positive case at work I've only done what he has said we need to do.

OP posts:
StatisticalSense · 08/09/2020 12:20

Are you in Scotland @bleuu?
Getting those contacted by test and trace to be tested is one of the many political moves by Nicola Sturgeon that have no effect on the spread of the disease but have been done simply so that she can say she is behaving differently to Boris.

Looneytune253 · 08/09/2020 12:21

Why did you have a test with no symptoms? You still need to isolate as you can develop symptoms at anytime in the 14 day isolation period. So yes you should defo have a test now that you've got symptoms

bleuu · 08/09/2020 12:21

We were told to test AND self isolate for 14 days regardless. Which obviously we are doing

OP posts:
Looneytune253 · 08/09/2020 12:22

Ok point taken OP. You've done exactly what you've been advised to do but yes I'd try and get a test now too

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 12:23

But even if you get a negative test within 14 days of contact with the positive test you still have to isolate for the rest of the14 days in case you get symptoms within that period.
Although its your dp that should have been isolating, not you

My friend was around someone who tested positive..She had a test and had to self isolate and have another test a few days later even though the first was negative. Im in Ireland. I don't think you did anything wrong OP x

woodhill · 08/09/2020 12:24

Definitely something going around

dementedpixie · 08/09/2020 12:24

OK, xpost, sorry. It's them making you waste tests then

PurpleDaisies · 08/09/2020 12:24

I don’t understand why you would have been told to isolate, let alone test when your husband is the one who was the contact.

Test and trace have given some very odd advice here.

Legallyblondeee · 08/09/2020 12:32

@PurpleDaisies she would need to self isolate and test if her husband has had contact with a covid positive case. assuming as husband and wife they will have had physical contact over a 14 day period. I would expect that is why track and trace have advised the above with the OP

PurpleDaisies · 08/09/2020 12:42

she would need to self isolate and test if her husband has had contact with a covid positive case

No, you’re wrong. It’s only the person who had been in contact with the positive case who isolates and they only need a test if they develop symptoms. Look at the link posted by @dementedpixie

GabsAlot · 08/09/2020 12:48

you have symptons so you do have to get another one done

conkersarebonkers · 08/09/2020 12:50

Depends on the area. In several outbreak areas in Scotland, close contacts AND their households have been told to isolate.

Anyway, to answer the OPs question, you do need a new test as you have developed a cough.

Keepdistance · 08/09/2020 13:40

Tbh the op has done the logical. And assuming she will also get it. Though it may well show too soon to take a test. But if they hadnt both been isolating rather than just him she would have been out spreading.
Take a test

. Im interested to know if your husband has asymptomatically passed it on and if following gov rules you would have spread it.
Hope it's not though op!
