Caerphilly in lockdown

No surprise there really. The local government was all but begging people to behave sensibly in the last week or so.

Cases are definitely on a steep increase here in South Wales and a number of primary schools have reported students testing positive after returning last week.

Hoping the death rate stays as low as it has done though

Yes I’m in South Wales so keeping an eye on it. It’s a concern isn’t it, so soon after the schools have gone back.

MozzchopsThirty · 07/09/2020 19:52

I've noticed that most people are not wearing masks in Cardiff, I get looked at like I'm some sort of freak in mine!

Social distancing isn't happening much here either particularly in supermarkets

I just came back from Italy where mask wearing is enforced and people are more respectful of social distancing

Augustbreeze · 07/09/2020 20:00

Was just reading that article. I don't quite Understand, they state that the spread is within homes, and bars aren't closing, but have taken the hitherto unique step of stopping people entering the borough. Why?

macaroniinapot · 07/09/2020 20:13

I can't see this achieving much. Compliance has been low so far and this will rely on a lot of good faith. Unlike the national lockdown, there will be lots of cars on the roads in and out, with plenty of people working in Cardiff / Newport etc. Surely people will just say they're going to work? Or stay within Caerphilly and meet people at the pubs.

cardibach · 07/09/2020 20:16

Why are so many people surprised at people not wearing masks when masks are not required?
Also, if it’s safe to be In a classroom with 30 people, no distancing and no masks For an hour at a time it would be a bit hypocritical to say my 20 socially distanced minutes in Tesco are putting anyone at risk.

macaroniinapot · 07/09/2020 20:18

I think that masks are slightly irrelevant here. I say that as someone who is wearing one. But this is to combat transmission between families and friends indoors. That's the issue.

clairethewitch70 · 07/09/2020 20:26

I live in this area, but DH &DS work in Cardiff. Don't know what will happen about work.

Juniperandrage · 07/09/2020 20:34

Work counts as a "reasonable excuse" to go out out of county

HesterShaw1 · 07/09/2020 21:05

This will not be as a result of schools going back.

And they say themselves that it's mainly young people and none of them are actually ill.

How long will this bullshit go on?

Gloomandglow · 07/09/2020 21:19

I'm in Caerphilly county. I'm not surprised this has happened.

I'm miffed. I had plans to go to Ikea in Cardiff on Wednesday.

Onlythepoets · 07/09/2020 21:24

WalesOnline says it’s clusters of people meeting indoors, not socially distancing and summer holidays abroad.

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 07/09/2020 21:35

I don’t see any social distancing happen around me (next valley over).

I work in Cardiff and see more there but it’s like a ghost town lately, so fairly easy to maintain SD

Masks aren't required in Wales, but social distancing should be 2m.
We went slightly over the border at the weekend and it felt very odd to be required to wear a mask in shops etc but people standing close (ie 1 metre) outdoors but usually without a mask.
Anyway, it's academic if in-home transmission is the issue.

Jakobabear · 07/09/2020 21:48

It's not much of a lockdown with pubs and restaurants still open. I can't wait to see how they'll police it, I think they'll struggle this time around.

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 07/09/2020 21:58

I'm in Newport, I've been in (well, outside) four pubs since stopping shielding. No one is taking it seriously at all here.

One - ironically the dodgy one in the very dodgy area - took our info for track and trace.

So my DCs are staying off school, and we're going back into voluntary lockdown.

It's so pointless. I know a few people who live in the area.
All of whom work outside, some in England.

So they're not allowed into people's homes. But they can all go and work in their busy overcrowded work spaces? Filled with people from near and far?

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 07/09/2020 22:02

My eldest's primary teacher is from Caerphilly btw.

So teaching enclosed classes of 30 children in another borough wouldn't break the rules for this laughable "lockdown". Glad the school have been okay with my decision for them not to return yet.

Hereinthesticks · 07/09/2020 22:04

And still the pubs and bars stay open? What will it take before any government or local authority closes a pub or bar?

People not allowed to sit someone else's garden but anyone can mix with numerous people from other households as long as it's in pub in a local lockdown area.

Msmcc1212 · 07/09/2020 22:21

‘Definitely not behaving Caerphilly then.’

Grin

Well done Butterer

Well Bolton's are now only open for takeaway / closed 2200 - 0500 daily.
MozzchopsThirty · 08/09/2020 21:57

My favourite Chinese is in Caerphilly 😩😩
How will I cope?

Berthatydfil · 08/09/2020 22:28

I have relatives working in the Council. They have been told that the track and trace service are seeing transmission within families and households contact so family gatherings and house parties and I assume no social distancing taking place.
So at the moment there are no plans to close pubs bars or other businesses. I would be surprised if Rct/Cardiff/Merthyr don’t follow in a week or so.

thesunwillout · 09/09/2020 08:43

I'm a bit concerned with DD heading off to Cardiff university soon, from England.
I didn't realise masks weren't required as they are here in shopping centres, shops, supermarkets.

I wonder if Cardiff will be locked down, hoping she moves in before this happens.
Do you think the mask wearing will soon extend to indoors.

Darkstarrynight · 09/09/2020 08:50

@thesunwillout It's not like the lockdown was previously, I think your dd will be fine. We may see masks needed indoors, yes, but at the moment social distancing is supposed to be 2m, not 1m as in England and on the whole, people in shops stick to that.
