for 6 months and within 1 week of being in school, now has a cold.
My 9 year old has come home today croaky and bit of a cough, he does not have a temperature though.
The only illness we have had is my 2 year old had a sickness bug back in march.
Waiting to hear back from the school, i assume he/we will need testing and to self isolate?
I genuinely think its a cold, but i suppose you never know.

Absolutely no illness since March and we’ve all been hit with colds.. well, I am unable to get a test so I am assuming cold.

Yep DD and I both have colds started over weekend. Only runny noses and general stuffiness. She was only in 3 days but I was expecting it as we always get colds the first week back.

Shes still going to school as no covid symptoms.

Yep. 2 days back and they both have colds after 24 bug free weeks. DS has a temperature so we've had him tested and are all self-isolating until we get the negative result.

To be honest, it sounds like the start of most autumn terms.

Is there a virus doing the rounds? I’m really worried

Report
MyNameWas · 07/09/2020 20:06

A virus that is not COVID...checked temperature and so far no temp

Why would they have a weakened immune system?

Report
Toontown · 07/09/2020 20:09

I'm pretty certain mine have better immune systems after 6 months of less stress. They are older though (10 plus) so have spent most days in the park once lockdown was reduced.

The thing that I've been thinking about is...if cold viruses are spreading so easily despite social distancing measures etc...then surely COVID can spread just as easily despite SD measures?!

Ds was in throughout lockdown and hasn't been ill since before lockdown, the longest I can remember him going without having a cold.

Yes, we were just discussing it with friends- it was great having six months of no colds, no coughs, no runny noses, just lovely. I do hope that this period of rest (and long walks outside when nothing else was open) was really beneficial for little ones.

Nope, mine have had a couple of snotty colds and something that caused a 48hr fever during lockdown. Pretty much as I would have expected with nursery etc

Yup, my little boy had a half day induction for reception on Wednesday. That’s it.
Currently in isolation and waiting for results off the test.

Same here. Both child and I were ill at the very start of lockdown, mild colds, there was no testing available at the time so don't know what it was. He hasn't gone back, we're all still well and OH has been in hospital for surgery during that time, too. Didn't pick anything up there (big up the NHS). He was mostly well until school came around, we didn't do much nursery (didn't work out!) but throughout various groups, socialising, etc we stayed pretty well. Once he started school he caught all sorts and passed it on to me. Blergh.

Exactly the same here! Now I have four children at home and a DC who missed their first day of yr7 Sad. I’m feeling like a terrible mum but once the coughing started I wasn’t going to send them in. No home test kits available in my area and I couldn’t get to a test centre so I’m not sure what we will do!

My 2 - not even a sniffle, even when dd2 went back to school in Jun. 2 weeks of holiday club & they both have a day out of action on holiday. Grrrrr. Fingers crossed that means they can avoid it back at school!

DD started on Wednesday and didn't go in today as she was coughing this morning. I haven't been able to get a Covid test as they're all gone online, the GP won't see us and we tried three times at 9am sharp to book a drive in test near us this morning and they were gone in seconds. After the third try the nearest one was 15 miles away but in central London, so that would be an hour and a half driving each way with no parking... by 1pm the nearest one was Edinburgh airport. No thank you!

She's had a grand day painting, playing dollies and watching tv. Hasn't coughed since about 11am. But if I can't get a test I can't send her back!

Five year old was back for two days last week and nose was streaming on Sunday. Still is but no cough/temp etc so school said she still has to attend

We all had covid we think back in March, very mild. My sons classmate (who he sits next to) mum got it back it Feb and has had ongoing symptoms, they kept testing her and all negative. They did an anti body test and it was positive.

So yes we a bit poorly for first 2 weeks in lock down. Mainly tired and no taste/smell but that wasn't a symptom then!

We all had the sore throat cold thing a couple of weeks ago. Thank god not whilst at school 😅

My DD. Went back to kindy in June, which is in a daycare facility (nursery) and has been sick three times because parents still dump sick kids.

On the bright side, I haven't had even a sniffle all year. Previously I was constantly ill because my immune system couldn't recover before the next cold/flu/virus DD or DS brought home so I got all of it.
