Has anyone had a home test they have posted back? How long did it take to get results?

Posted Thursday, arrived Friday...still waiting.

Sherloidbaisherloid · 07/09/2020 13:24

That’s not so good, my kids have game me their back to school cold and cough. I have a chesty cough and very stuffy with chills. No fever or loss of taste/smell. Not sure if I should even test, especially seeing as there seems to be a shortage

If your symptoms don’t fit the criteria - the nose doesn’t count and the cough has specific criteria - why are you testing?!

Sherloidbaisherloid · 07/09/2020 13:34

@Feminist10101 did you read my second post? I didn’t say i was testing! I said I’m not sure if I should. Although the stuffy sinuses doesn’t match, I don’t think my boss will be happy with me being in work with a cough. I work directly with the public. I can’t afford to take more time off after being furloughed for 4 months

Your first post made it sound like you had sent the test back already. Hmm

Stroppy bosses aren’t covered by the guidance. You don’t fit the criteria for testing. You should be following 2m social distancing at work, and if not possible wearing appropriate PPE. I wouldn’t test a frontline NHS employee if all they had was a sniffle and a non-Covid-sounding cough.

Sherloidbaisherloid · 07/09/2020 13:47

@Feminist10101 bit more than a sniffle but thanks for your expert opinion. And as for ppe yes I am well aware of the guidelines in my work, I know how to do my job correctly and safely at the moment and have been doing so. Merely came to ask how long a postal test takes for results, no need for the snide and condescending replies. I’m guessing you haven’t had a home test so don’t even know the answer to my question? Confused

It took my test about 24 hours to arrive and less than 48 hours after dropping it in the post box to come back.

Sherloidbaisherloid · 07/09/2020 13:54

@Shantotto thank you Smile

@Feminist10101
The symptoms do fit the criteria if she has a persistent cough. If you can't be bothered to do the most basic of research don't bother advising on such matters.

Feminist10101 · 07/09/2020 14:11

The cough required for a test is not “chesty”.

It is “persistent, ie lasting more than an hour or 3 coughing bouts in 24 hours”.

I’ve spent 6 months barely sleeping trying to navigate all of this to keep 90,000 NHS staff safe. So if you want to argue over credentials, carry on.

StatisticalSense · 07/09/2020 14:24

@Feminist10101
If a 'chesty' cough falls into the criteria you state it means a test is required and in reality it is extremely rare for someone with a non-medical background to consider themselves to have a cough until they have had a few periods of coughing in 24 hours (which is sufficient for requiring a test).
I'm not doubting that such guidelines will have prevented unnecessary tests and periods of isolation amongst health care professionals, but when considering the wider public someone saying that they have a cough will almost certainly fit the criteria for a test.
