Covid endemic in deprived parts of England?

A report by PHE leaked to the Observer suggests Covid-19 may be becoming endemic in deprived parts of England, explaining why rates are not decreasing despite local restrictions.

@Pixel77

London seems to be doing OK wonder if more immunity there due to their initial high cases, plenty of deprived areas there.
I wonder how many tests are going on in London? What with all the news about the latest testing shambles - the poor availability of tests, no home tests, people being asked to drive miles (particularly an issue in London where many don't drive)

Low number of tests = low number of cases. Also, I'd like to know how many heart attacks and strokes (both known to be caused by Covid), and pneumonia cases (and 'summer flu') London's seeing.

They're also (unusually) reporting London's figures as if all the individual boroughs are separate towns. Millions live in London but geographically it's not a large place. Boroughs are very interconnected, people regularly, often daily, travel through several to get to and from work.

Add up the individual borough cases to get a more accurate picture

@MissPoldark

Add in the fact that testing capacity has also been reduced in the north east due to resources being diverted elsewhere.
That's a worry. Parts of the north east, i.e. Middlesbrough, have seen a concerning ruse in cases recently. I'm not sure why the focus is mainly on the nirth west. Aren't people's lives in the north east also worth protecting?

I'm doing typos all over the place today! I need more coffee.

For a while, back in the spring, there was a national risk register published of the places most at risk of Coronavirus due to health care, number of infections in the area etc.

My nearest town was number 1 - I'm in the West Midlands.

It is worrying that poorer areas are being hit by this.

This was the register

True. We were probably less aware of it due to very low testing back then.

It's definitely worrying. Appalling, in fact. That link was published in April - which means the government has had plenty of time to have taken action to protect the more vulnerable populations.

Middlesbrough is named on that link as one of the most at risk areas. Yet even now, with cases rising there, very little is being done. The media seem almost as unbothered as the government. All their focus is on the north west (perhaps because Media City is based in Salford?). No focus = less awareness = less action.

Yes Middlesborough and Walsall were joint top each week. Like you, we don't hear much in the media about those areas.

Meant most weeks..
