Hi all,
Myself and both of my kids have caught a cold since yesterday, sore throat, coughing, and runny noses- no temperature. DD starts back at school on Monday, she should be we enough to go but have the tail end of cold symptoms, coughing and runny nose. Should I keep her off untill symptoms have completely gone? I'm guessing the school would probably send her home, Im not sure though

Because it's impossible to maintain most of those measures in a school.
There will be little to no social distancing.
The rooms may well only havea little ventilation as often windows don't open fully, or may even be painted shut.
Bubbles are often many many people; even primary schools often have to have year group bubbles to make the school day actually work, not just classes of 30.
Often children, especially small ones, find it hard to follow rigorous hand hygiene and don't always use the 'catch it, kill it, bin it' routine either.

Because of all these reasons I don't know why schools are even bothering to put in place any of these measures. eg.. Removing the toys in case they get infected is ridiculous and actually really sad as young children need to play. So they should just ditch the stupid rules if they are useless anyway

Is anyone thought through how on earth the testing system will cope if everyone with a cough rocks up for a Covid test this autumn? Its completely insane

The trouble is, that is what the government is telling us to do.

TBH I’m confused too ds has a cold a snotty nose - no temperature, cough or loss of taste listed on the nhs website but the link above suggests other symptoms including Chills and a snotty nose. He has been back at school so a cold from other kids is highly likely! Word do I do we also quarantined back in March due to more realistic symptoms?

@TheHoneyBadger

And really who is going to sack anyone for following government guidelines? The tribunals would be endless.

If instead of posting you had gone for a test you’d likely have had the all clear before Monday anyway.

This is extremely naive.

It’s not for you or I, nor anyone else on MN to declare this as insane though. How do we know any better?? The guidelines are clear - a cough is a symptom and needs a test. There can be no room for interpretation from the general public who don’t have any more sound knowledge that the government do (although sometimes it seems that this may be debatable)

When Scottish schools went back the testing of children increase by 400%
The Scottish governement have had to release lots of info highlighting COVID isn't a cold and children should attend school

I appreciate colds are about but you'd feel differently if hypothetically you was in a small classroom with 30 kids, half of which are coughing (just colds though) and no PPE. It's a little unnerving!
