Number of households at Christmas

janetmendoza · 04/09/2020 23:14

I was just thinking about our usual Christmas which I host alternate years..
Me and DH (1 household)
My Mum and Dad (2nd Household)
Adult son (3rd household)
His uni student girlfriend (4th household)
My brother (5th household)
Brothers girlfriend (6th household)
My other brother and DSIL and there three adult sons, two of whom are uni students (so households 7,8 and 9)
Is this right?? Even though we are only 13 people we are nine households. There is no way this is going to happen this year is there? And we will have to choose between DS and my parents. It is right isn't it that in England we are just allowed two households to meet in doors?

We're talking 3 months away. Who knows what that will look like. Speculation won't help.

Currently it's two households.

janetmendoza · 04/09/2020 23:22

Of course you are right, but it just seems like something fun to plan for, but unrealistic I think.

some of the people listed appear to be living alone, and therefore don't need to be considered as a separate household, they are able to "bubble" with another household and still be considered one household.that won't help you much but it slightly reduces the scale of the problem.

janetmendoza · 04/09/2020 23:31

Yes might sneak one or two more in like that!

Sorry, I get it. It feels impossible to plan. I'm in a watch list area and I think I've just become used to not planning or booking now, just in case.

You could be your DS’s support bubble, then you could have him and your parents. I know it’s three months away but it’s very unlikely the restrictions will be lifted by then. If anything they’ll be stricter.

katy1213 · 04/09/2020 23:36

I doubt anyone will knock on the door and arrest you.

janetmendoza · 04/09/2020 23:47

Well no arrests, but the police did come to our road to break up a party! I expect they wont bother on Christmas day though.

We won't still be expected to social distance by Christmas, surely?

janetmendoza · 04/09/2020 23:55

Yes we definitely will imho!

Meh I’m just going with it’s not happening so staying home with my husband this year ! Parents are staying on their own too. Nice quiet Christmas for a change. Still off work for nearly 2 weeks.

Not worth the risk - if everyone travels home for Christmas like they usually do it’s a disaster waiting to happen tbh

Couchbettato · 05/09/2020 01:12

It was DS first Christmas last year and for some reason, we - who don't own a car - were the ones bloody travelling. Absolute nightmare going from house to house to house.

I prayed to Yahweh, Odin, Zeus, Osiris and any other divine spirit that hadn't zoned out that they might not ask me to mix with other households Christmas 2020 with a toddler.

So I'm sorry, but I think the pandemic might be my fault.

Heyahun · 05/09/2020 01:17

Hahah @Couchbettato I feel the same - husband and I expected to travel back to Ireland every year without fail for Xmas - this year il be 32 weeks pregnant - at the moment our parents still seem to think we will be able to come - I’ve explained I will be staying put this year and am blaming the virus - even though I think my pregnancy should
Be reason enough 😂😂

Racoonworld · 05/09/2020 01:56

@kittensarecute yes of course we will have to still social distance at Christmas. Their plan is social distancing until Theresa vaccine, even if one gets approved before Christmas it won’t be rolled out in time.

Pixxie7 · 05/09/2020 02:20

I think social distances will be an issue and I think a lot of people will ignore it for the sake of 1 day. Each to their own.

ChanceChanceChance · 05/09/2020 02:44

@kittensarecute

We won't still be expected to social distance by Christmas, surely?
Can't see what's going to better by December, but that doesn't mean the government won't have fully given up trying by then.

So it could go either way!
