Toddler coughed in my sons face today

We were in an outside play sandpit and he came over to play near my Ds. He started digging by him. I wasn't worried as we are outside, but then he stood up, right next to him and coughed right in my Ds' face. My DS is mouth breather so I'm sure he breathed it right in. Looking at the coughing boy, his nose seemed snotty, so fingers crossed it's not Covid. The main thing I'm worried about is if my son gets a cough that's a pain for starting school next week. Then he won't be able to start reception as it might be Covid and I'll to get him tested.

Plus this place we went you paid to get in, so in the current climate outside venue or not surely you don't take a child with a cough Angry

Oh dear poor tot.

Jrobhatch29 · 05/09/2020 11:43

Ah for gods sake. My 4 year old coughs his way through winter. He also makes a cough noise when he is nervous. He did it once in butterfly world the other day and a man nearly threw himself into the pond. Can't wait for winter....

Just like I need to work on my spelling, if you are all coughing so much you need a medication review. I have Asthma and steroids mean I never cough unless unwell with an infection. Hayfever the same, there are many great treatments and your doctor can help. A long term cough is not good and can be a sign of lung cancer.

Off for a marmalade sandwich ! Ciao

My husband has had a chronic cough for years due to a lung condition that cannot be treated and will only get progressively worse. He has every test and scan known to man (including many checking for lung cancer). If only we had thought about getting a medication review OP, that will definitely cure him.

I’m dreading going out in winter when his cough gets significantly worse because I know we’re going to meet more and more ignorant judgemental people like you.

Bollss · 05/09/2020 19:48

Omg do you never randomly cough? Have you ever met a toddler? If you're that nervous seek help or stay at home.

OverTheRainbow88 · 05/09/2020 19:54

I understand in the current climate not wanting a random child to cough at your child. My son played with another boy at the playground for ages yesterday and then the boy said my mum isn’t well at all so has gone for a test! I’m hoping it’s not a covid test!!!

This made me chortle.

DS2 always gets a lingering cough after a cold (which he had all last week).

I can't just lock him up.

I'll tell my GP that some random on the internet says there's a cure to stop me coughing, I'm sure he'd love to know what it is.

I don't have asthma and the prescription antihistamines don't work so sorry, everyone is going to have to put up with my coughing.

GreyishDays · 05/09/2020 20:02

I’m surprised that people don’t know the criteria for getting a test. If you have a new cough (not just a toast crumb), temperature or loss of smell/taste then you get a test. Nothing to do with school.

Mindymomo · 05/09/2020 20:04

My son has asthma, it started when he was 1 year old and as a toddler it never stopped him going out, but he would cough.

My most recent CT scan was about 3 weeks ago. There’s nothing in my lungs. Bully for you if your cough variant asthma is controlled. Not all of us are so lucky.
midnightstar66 · 05/09/2020 20:36

He'll get coughed all over in school too. We've sent countless coughing children home and none of them have had corona. They've now changed the guidelines so that they have to have 3 continuous coughing bouts in an hours because so many perfectly healthy children were getting sent home and using up test slots

NotAKaren · 05/09/2020 21:02

Christ alive, this is getting ridiculous Hmm

Cheeseandlobster · 05/09/2020 22:02

Op you are very precious. How dare you stare down a toddler. What the actual fuck is wrong with you?

Jenasaurus · 06/09/2020 11:20

I think OP is worried her DS may miss his first day of school and the introduction settling in phase rather than he has caught COVID, I can understand your concern as if he does have a cough you will be expected to keep him off and get him tested, hope he doesnt get anything Op and he has a good first day at school.

HeresMe · 06/09/2020 12:14

People cough all year round, it doesn't just happen in winter.

SpnBaby1967 · 06/09/2020 20:23

Only on MN would someone stare down a TODDLER for coughing on their PFB.

Ffs, critical thinking has taken a real hit this year. Good luck when your kid starts school & catches everything going and decides to sneeze into your eyeballs! Grin. I'm really lucky if my house goes a month without one kids coming down with something whether it's a sore throat, stomach ache, the snots etc (worms did the round when DD11 was in reception, that was fun)

SomewhereEast · 06/09/2020 20:57

If you're going to lose it every time a person coughs in your PFB's vicinity, its really going to be a fun winter...

Millie2013 · 06/09/2020 21:04

It’ll likely be your child coughing over someone else’s soon, OP, it’s what they do

Hardbackwriter · 06/09/2020 21:10

I think when you're staring down toddlers for coughing you've really lost it.

Having a cough and coughing once are not the same thing. DS coughed when we were out for lunch the other day, which was very embarrassing because everyone stared in horror, but it was the first and last time he coughed that day, he did not have 'a cough'.
