visiting softplay

I'm thinking of taking DD to our recently reopened local soft play which has always been very clean. What would make you visit or stay away from soft play

I'll be avoiding soft play because my children are school age and I want to avoid them catching anything that would keep them off school or require a covid test. If they were preschool age I would probably go ahead. We're in an area with very low cases so I know the chance of catching covid in a local soft play is tiny.

Have they opened the playframe or just other stuff? What procedures have they introduced?

McCheney73 · 03/09/2020 19:06

I plan on taking my 3 year old in the next week or so.
Everywhere has to be covid secure now. From what I read of ours the capacity has been massively reduced, you book sessions and they close in between sessions for a clean.
He is so desperate to go again he keeps asking bless him.
He's back at nursery and has been since June. Personally I think he's more likely to catch something there.

Seems there is no ball pit, you have to book, there's 2 sessions a day with deep cleaning in between and much reduced capacity

I wouldn’t be too worried about surfaces, the issues will be whether you are close to other people and whether it is ventilated/air conditioned.

We went within the first couple of days of ours re-opening. Both kids caught a cold!

We’ve been. One in a huge warehouse like building with big glass doors that they can open up. It felt very airy & clean. They’ve removed the ballpool (which I like as it’s I find them a bit grubby to think about).. they have 30 mins between each session & are cleaning it. Limited numbers. And one of those fogger things once a week.

Kiddo had a whale of a time. We are all well thankfully.

I probably wouldn’t go to the many small ones around me, they are in poorly ventilated buildings mostly. I do feel so sorry for the owners though 😔 all lovely, family run businesses. Super friendly & they try keep it really clean. I’m very particular about my soft plays!

We went to one yesterday. I know some people are quite worried about them but my 2 youngest have been looking forward to going to it for months. We had to book, hand sanitizer was available, as others have said the ball pool has been emptied and masks were required to be worn inside by parents/carers. There were far fewer people there than normal, so social distancing could be observed- although I can't say in fairness we were always 2 metres apart.
It felt as secure as possible and it was lovely seeing children have so much fun.

Hophop26 · 03/09/2020 21:51

We have been recently. Went early morning first session of the day and were the only people there! Same as others, had to book, reduced capacity, tables socially distanced, no ball pit (yay!), good timed gap between sessions for cleaning, food/drinks via app and table service. Kids loved it and had missed it so much, they were possibly weirded out by being the only ones there though! It felt very Covid-secure, far far far more so than other places we have been to

Hophop26 · 03/09/2020 21:53

I’m intrigued to see if the soft play businesses can keep it up or whether they start to drop measures a bit, it sucks the joy out of it bit being so controlled etc and for far less income

yawnsvillex · 03/09/2020 21:54

Regardless of Covid, my DC always got sick from soft play. I can't stand them.
