One bowl 10+ kids

Just that really. Apparently it's been approved by the schools health and safety that up to 10 children can wash their hands in one bowl of cold water.
This is a practice being used in my sons class.
He's not allowed to use hand gel I have provided.
They have access to a sink and the toilets but apparently a shared bowl of water is better than anti bac gel.

Thoughts??

Those of you saying call Ofsted, what do you want to have happen? An inspector to turn up and install a sink?

There us no money. None. That is what you need to be calling and writing about - to your MP. No money for soap, let alone 'hands free gel dispensers' or whatever.

So the bowl has gone. A hand gel station is now in its place.
The class is split into 3 groups. One goes toilet downstairs, one uses sink in class and one does gel. They now rotate.

Tbh this should have been done without a parent getting involved.

Glad it’s been resolved, I was going to agree that the water wasn’t good enough! As a teacher I’m glad you’ve given the teacher the benefit of the doubt, she was quite obviously totally in the wrong but probably stressed up to the eyeballs right now.

As an recentish ex childminder and now working in a school, I would say shared bowl of water for hand washing is completely unacceptable, even out with a pandemic, what about other bacteria that don’t die is soapy water and things like threadworms eggs. During a pandemic is even worse.

I would be contacting public health and your local council education department regarding this practise.

All hand washing at our school is done in running water with soap and disposal paper towels used for drying, this is simple infection control measures.

We do however have water play available, with added soap and only to be used after supervised hand washing. Our children wash hands a minimum of 6 times a day in fresh running water and soap. There is also plentiful hand sanitiser in every classroom and all areas of the school, this can be accessed by pupils and staff whenever required.
