Is COVID 'snitching' really a thing...?

I mean, snitching on people not wearing masks, not following social distancing, breaking lockdown guidance...

I genuinely don't know anyone who would do this, nor do I know anyone who has experienced it.

I can't help feeling it's a bit of a fabricated outrage.

No, but had a FB post for my estate written about me going 'out and about as normal - clearly not going to work as not in uniform' during the lockdown

Exactly the same thing happened to me! Our street has a facebook group and pictures of me walking to work were put up at the end of March/April. I worked as normal throughout lockdown, wasn't given the opportunity to work from home . I have to be honest I found it hilarious, how sad and petty people can be.

My daughter was also "confronted" by some pathetic busybody whilst she was out with the dog. Luckily she's gobby and stood up for herself Grin

Yep. I was reported at the start of lockdown (2nd week in), for having my sister round and going into my dads house. Had the nosey cunt actually asked me my reasons, instead of assuming, she would have saved herself the shame of reporting a family who had just lost a wife/mother to covid.

Forgot to add, the same person then reported my sister for going out every day, when in fact my sister was going to work making body bags.

I don't know whether to be relieved or depressed that it's been the same in other places and not just my estate/Facebook group!

The whole #BeKind movement seems to have been thrown out the window pretty quick, and totally agree that it's reminiscent of nazi Germany.

At the very start of it all my sister and DM's local Facebook group kept a daily chart of how many times some of the different house numbers left their front door and encouraging each other to make a tally for evidence before phoning the police. They were even literally starting a stopwatch when certain households went out and would make a note if it went so much as a minute over 60 to collate for evidence. If you went out more than once you were on the watchlist.

We used to laugh about it at first but my sister was left almost housebound by the paranoia it caused. She lives with my Mum and I wouldn't visit for months for fear of being doxed. Some very sad or bored people living there.

After I was ill and had been literally in bed for weeks, I drove to a local (5 minutes) hill for exercise along the top. Before I got out of the car I received a phone call from DD so I took it. This was in late April, and I had last left the house mid March. A police car drove past me and really slowed down, almost stopping, so they could peer in and scowl at me. It was really intimidating actually.

A house in my terrace is an AirBNB and the police have been called several times because there have been groups of friends from more than two households.

They have been turfed out, presumably fined too.

I think there has to be balance between being a responsible citizen and reporting dangerous breaches, and being someone who is getting joy from disrupting others without really being sure what is going on.
