In a restaurant. Poor buggers were sat next to a slightly tipsy me.
Said restaurant could in no way space people the 1metre minimal rule and the loud music was just that. Loud!
We all had to raise voices to talk, no one could socially distance.
Now I should point out that personally I wasn't particularly bothered about this. If I was that worried about covid I wouldn't have been in a restaurant in the first place.

However, it was interesting that a member of parliament and the local councillor were also completely ignoring all the 'rules'.
I said as much.
They looked a little sheepish, but not particularly bothered by my lenghty covid rant.
And my ffs can we stop with the constant u turns on what we should and shouldn't be doing!
When they left he suggested I join a political organisation as I'm obviously very passionate about how this is being handled.
Patronising sod.

I wonder how many more of our mps are completely ignoring the advice we , as the general population, are supposed to do.

Anyone else met any while out and about lately?

Well I think you did a really good job of ruining theirs and your night out tbh. Do you think your local MP has any say in what Boris is doing?

Our local Mayor is tweeting his arse off that there is zero communication and finding out what’s happening from the press.

If I was sat near a table and heard you ranting away like that I’d have asked to move table away from you.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 30/08/2020 09:07

I think you should join a political organisation. Why did you think that was patronising?

Wecandothis99 · 30/08/2020 09:10

Why are you behaving like a dick though?

PreviouslyIdentified · 30/08/2020 09:11

It wasn't an actual rant as such, more a discussion. I wasn't naming the mp or councillor and I was one of the only people who noticed who they were.
They are conservative members of parliament. Who have both been very vocal on following the rules and huge Boris supporters.
Can't have it both ways I'm afraid.
You cannot be so vocal about everyone following the rules then not, in public with your constituents!

Our elected members of parliament are supposed to work for us!

You were being a massive hypocrite!

Crawlbee · 30/08/2020 09:14

I think if that's all they said they were restrained and polite. You sound irritating.

PreviouslyIdentified · 30/08/2020 09:15

How exactly was I being a hypocrite?

I was pointing out that they have been very vocal in us all 'following the rules' yet completely and utterly ignoring them, themselves.

Do we not hold our elected members of parliament to account anymore or should we all just ignore it?

You are being naive - the rules are for us not them. See also Dominic Cummings.

Codexdivinchi · 30/08/2020 09:16

I can get if you were walking past the restaurant and spotted them but you were actually in there with them. You were doing exactly the same! It’s hypocritical!

Have a word with yourself. Was the your night that boring you had to start making other people feel uncomfortable?

Jason118 · 30/08/2020 09:16

Well done for pointing it out to them though SmileSmile

userxx · 30/08/2020 09:23

You probably ruined his meal out. Well done.

Which particular law were you or them breaking?

Which particular guidance were they breaking, from your description two households (or maybe even one, we don't know that the MP and Councillor aren't a household or support bubble, maybe there's a story there?) were meeting in a restaurant, all totally legal, it's not for individuals to judge if a restaurant's COVID-secure measures are sufficient, but obviously they have the choice to leave. So everything described is wholly within the law and guidelines for them.

You however broke the guidance about not flitting between groups within the restaurant just because you see someone else you know, you appear to fail to understand the guidance, and fail to believe it applies to you. All for calling out incompetent and hypocritical politicians, but your example doesn't appear to do that, so just makes you seem an idiot with an agenda, which sadly means other people will ignore genuine incompetence in politicians.
