Worried for DS doing GCSES future prospects

My DS is going into Y10. Im so worried that the school closure we've already had and any future disruptions to his learning are going to massively impact his end results and his future prospects.
Whilst he goes to a great school and I'm sure the teachers will do all they can to help i fear it won't be enough to get them all to achieve their potential. I'm sad and angry that our children have had this disruption to their education that will affect the rest of their lives.
I know safety and health must come first and some may perceive me as selfish but surely I'm allowed to be upset that his future is being compromised for a virus that has miniscule chance of effecting him medically.

Yes. Mine is just going into year 11 and missing part of their GCSE year, it is a worry. Hoping things are not as disrupted in the year ahead. They are due to take mocks in the winter and exams as normal apparently

Younger children have the time to catch up but the older ones don't. They are the ones who are suffering the most in all this .

Totally agree OP. Our son was already on bottom sets with mild SEN. He might have scraped a level 3 but I'm now thinking realistically he will need to go to college on a Level 1/2 course to give him any chances

I'm thinking the same, eldest is going into Y10, is on the SEN register (at mainstream) and had really struggled working at home. I'm not feeling altogether positive about the prospect of a very disrupted year/s.

I'm assuming should there need to be local lockdowns, Y11 will be a priority year, no idea if Y10 will be.

Yup, DD15 going into Y11, I think the new Y11s and Y13s have been absolutely shafted. I have to keep reminding myself that the whole cohort is in the same boat, but it still makes for an even more stressful experience for them.

DD has lost a lot of confidence in her abilities, despite her school continuing with online teaching throughout lockdown. However, they took a fairly soft approach, so there where times she just didn't bother doing lessons. She's trying to catch up a bit now in advance of school restarting, but as frustrated as I am with her for not working at her best, I also feel very sorry for the shitload of circumstances that have hit them.

Of course the disruptions will be around the same across the board, but going forward those who are slightly older or slightly younger will have the upper edge on them. I can't imagine in years to come "I'm a covid 19 pandemic exam " child is going to give them any leeway when it comes to employers looking at their qualifications

There is something in the media today saying 50:50 chance exams will go ahead next year, but that concerns me as last year, pre covid coursework and mocks were used but this year, that would mean the work done during this time would be used...not as simple in some ways as last years to predict grades.

Why not leave it to the exam boards to speak to schools?

They’ll work something out

I have two year 11’s and don’t see how this will be the be all and end all of their life chances.
