Has anyone tested positive despite wearing a mask

I am a primary teacher and I have dss going to school and University soon. Also have dm and MIL who are both in extremely vulnerable category. We will of course be very careful about handwashing and wear masks as much as we can. The children in my class will not be wearing masks. I am very anxious about the risks to myself and my family and I live in an area which has been averaging 5 cases per day. So, I was wondering, just anecdotally, whether anyone had tested positive even though they have worn masks when out in public.

@SomewhereEast

Sweden are not doing well. They have twice as many cases as UK per million of the population.

Masks aren't a magic bullet either way, but careful use should help. Along with social distancing, handwashing etc.

I've read that it is the viral load which is the important factor with severity of the disease. Close proximity, hand shaking etc pre covid, allowed very heavy viral loads to be transmitted, hence so many very sick HCPs. All the things we have to do now including mask wearing, are more likely to confer a 'glancing blow' from the virus, than before. Wearing masks and not touching your face, changing them and washing regularly is important.

Yes, twice.

Thank you everyone for your responses.
And thank you Getoutofbed25 for your good wishes - best wishes to you too too to stay safe. I am feeling that things are getting back to normal but nevertheless, don't want to be complacent.

hastingsmua yes I thought that too about healthcare workers but in the early stages there wasn't enough PPE and also I'm guessing that, even when they did have PPE, they were unfortunately exposed to high levels of virus.

tornadovalley that is also my perception- that masks would at least reduce exposure even of they don't eliminate it.

Billi77 do you have any idea where you might have caught it?

No doctor at the moment is working without a mask. So yes; it would seem the mask does indeed protect. But England generally is not into it (hence being up there with biggest covid deaths per capita in the world).
