Infant school have sent out strict criteria for bubbles and not mixing of classes etc etc

All sounds reasonable.

But for the first two days back they are sending them to their old classes with old classmates and old teacher to 'say goodbye' just for fun?!

Just seems a bit pointless and completely against the whole point of segregating the classes into strict bubbles of 30!?

Or are other schools doing this?

I have heard of this elsewhere, presumably it's to help settle them back into school. Only a big problem if children are moving classes, is that your DC's situation? If so then you have a very good point!

Ours is doing the same (SW). Grr im not happy as you say it is doubling the contacts for no reason. Luckily ours are moving as classes because it would have been even worse if say 50/50 for different teachers.
But it means dc will be exposed to
30-60 kids 4 teachers and ta (who are exposed to another set)
And i have 2 kids...
Also reception are having groups of parents in for a stay and play! (We dont normally it's usually jun outside and kids go in by themselves for storytime.

I blame gov guidance a lot.
It's all you can have staff switching between bubbles.
We also have breakfast and afterschool clubs running.

If the classes didn’t get the chance to be together before the holiday then I can understand this. They’re thinking of the children’s emotional well-being surrounding their transition more than they’re thinking about mixing bubbles.

The government is to blame for the inconsistency across schools, now, they’re pretty much told to have bubbles, but not to worry about bursting them all over the place.

Keepdistance · 27/08/2020 23:56

The transition will go a lot worse if a kid does have it though.
Their class could have to isolate plus teacher and TA and also their last year teacher and TA so effectively closing 2 bubbles.

Better would have been to go to new class but at break times have the previous teacher to talk to them outside.
They are not really considering the risks to the CV/ex shielding parents and kids.
If the kids are stressed its probably more all the changes like staggered starts etc than changing teacher as except for reception they understand that. And certainly at our school kids have days with the pe teacher etc so are used to change.

cabbageking · 28/08/2020 00:43

We are not doing this.

You would need to look at their risk assessment which should be on the school website for the details around their thinking.

The bubble can be the whole year and

tinyandfaraway · 28/08/2020 12:28

To clarify the children are all being mixed up into new classes so will basically be mixing up the whole school. I don't even feel that after 6 months most 5/6 year olds will remember their old set up enough to need the transition.. and reception and year 1 even went back last term...

Yes complete stupidity.

I think they are taking the fact the teachers can cross bubbles and ignoring the fact that ideally they shouldnt as it increases risk for all.
