Would you be ok with this?

DH is going back to football training. There will be about 17 other men taking part in the 2 hour session plus coaches. Nothing in the guidance they have received from the club says anything about social distancing drills. Looks like it will be training as normal albeit with equipment disinfected/washed after use. Would you be ok with your partner taking part in a contact sport like this at the moment with the virus still around? Worried about him coming home to our baby and toddler. We also spend a lot of time with elderly relatives.

Honestly i would be fine with it and I was one of the people initially washing all my food shopping. I don't think the risk is that high, the numbers are really low now. It's outside, there isn't that much can contact in football

yeOldeTrout · 26/08/2020 22:37

Is it all outdoor sport?

KitKatastrophe · 26/08/2020 22:44

Yes I would be ok with it

frustrationcentral · 26/08/2020 22:45

I'd be ok with it

Gingerfish91 · 26/08/2020 22:46

Yes I’d be ok with that.

If it is 100% outside, fine. If they spend 20 mins packed into a damp changing room after the football, then I'm not so sure.

This virus is mostly airborne. The dangers are spaces that are Close Closed and Crowded.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 27/08/2020 00:27

Outdoor in summer yes, in winter when the air is cold probably not. Definitely not indoors.

Dadnotamum72 · 27/08/2020 05:11

I'm a football coach, socially distant drills for adults and kids stopped on the 24 july I think, all training/ drills and matches are full contact, supposed to distance as soon as training stops etc but in reality probably doesn't fully happen.
Kids and adults are playing full league matches like normal with a few guidlines from 1st sep, I don't or havent seen any issues so far as long as like others say its all outdoors and no changing rooms etc are used.

termtimeterror · 27/08/2020 05:32

Yes. Your time with elderly relatives is a concern though.

seayork2020 · 27/08/2020 05:38

Yes I would be ok but you being with elderly relatives sounds more of a worry in case you give it to them

notevenat20 · 27/08/2020 06:34

Your baby and toddler are at no risk from Covid . You can get rid of that worry at least.

Jrobhatch29 · 27/08/2020 07:23

My partner and my little boy have both returned to outdoor football

Ponoka7 · 27/08/2020 14:38

My Adult DD, who has children has returned to her MA sessions. I would be careful around elderly relatives though.

sirfredfredgeorge · 27/08/2020 17:07

I would be more than okay with it, I'd be encouraging it, reduced fitness due to lack of exercise is higher risk for most people than covid and many people cannot get meaningful exercise solo - they just aren't motivated enough.

Exercise reduces your chance of death so much, and with the chances of catching it so low, it would be wrong to deny exercise, particularly if we need to enter a time when the chances of catching it is higher and therefore no exercise again.

Thanks for your responses!!

Definitely encouraging it.

Outdoors for a start

AND
anyone feeling even slightly under the weather may turn up for a night in the pub but is very unlikely to want to go kicking a ball around, falling down or being body charged

boon · 27/08/2020 22:39

Yes 100%. My son has been back to football training and playing matches for weeks. I wouldn't have a problem.

Deelish75 · 28/08/2020 09:56

I’d be fine about it. My DS has been back a few weeks now and we’ve all been fine - his training is outside though.
