Have you re-started your own hobbies?

I’m just curious and don’t want to start a bun fight.

I do karate and we have had virtual training twice a week throughout this period. The club is starting up in-person training again next month. I do trust that the Sensei will be cautious - he is a great guy - but I’m not sure how I feel about it because it is indoors.

There won’t be any partner work. I just wondered if anyone else with similar hobbies was thinking of starting again.

I’m not a high risk person as far as I know, but I’m 44 so not a young person either. Also, I find the unknown long term effects of Covid quite scary.

My local leisure centre reopened last week and I have now been for three fitness classes. Fewer people are booked on each class than usual so we are further away from each other.

It all seems very well organised and I shall continue going. I'm nearly 60 and there were some (even) older people at one of the classes (aqua aerobics which often attracts an older crowd). Everyone seemed very pleased to be back.

Sounds very safe. Gives me confidence!

I've been running throughout lockdown either on my own, and then as ruled eased with one friend, and then with a small group of friends. My running club also does small group sessions.

My (indoor) swimming lessons restarted on Monday. There were 3 of us in a double width lane but not much in the way of social distancing outside the pool when people were chatting etc. However, I suspect it is considerably safer now than it was when I last went in March and in any event swimming pools are quite literally pools of all sorts of germs so not much point getting worried about covid but not all the others.

I re-started face to face with my PT the first day 2 people were permitted to.meet.
Then once groups of up to 6 were allowed to meet, I started going to outdoor classes where there were 5 of us plus the instructor.
Then when guidance changed again, we went to up to 30 (although in reality it's been a maximum of 20).
Have also been back to the gym, and been to indoor classes, mostly spin (3xweek) plus another hiit class.

Yes exercise is my hobby.

No. Everything I used to do involved being with other people inside.

I'm trying to turn cycling from transportation into a hobby, but as it's been transport all my life and there's nowhere I specially want to go, it's a challenge.

I’ll be resuming my karate classes w/c 7 Sep - the club is re-opening for all classes (with advance booking). Classes will be pretty much as normal, but with fewer people. Luckily my Sensei has been regularly posting classes on YouTube since lockdown started, so I’ve been able to practice at home, but I truly can’t wait to get back to the dojo.

Our gym has been open for a couple of months (I live in France) - again, exactly as normal, but with limited numbers in the classes.

Everything else - running, swimming (in the sea) and Peleton spinning I’ve been able to keep up.

Scuba hasn’t started up yet, but we train in a school pool so that could be why. It’s also quite a difficult one, if anyone has had it there can be long term implications of lung damage which you could be unaware of but could prove fatal. Also part of the training involves emergency use of your partners air supply so that has serious implications too.
