Witnessed this yesterday evening. The restaurant had a sheet for track and trace with only four names on there, and the place was bustling. What’s the point of a system that’s pretty much getting ignored in a lot of hospitality venues?

Track and trace in some instances is pointless. I went to a cafe the other day with a huge garden and sat at a table at least 5 metres from anyone else. But details were still taken for T&T. So if someone on that table 5m from me tests positive, I would have the isolate? What's the point?

Do people ever get mad at Google/Apple for knowing their locations? Most people have their GPS tracking on and don't mind a mega-corp tracking them, saving their patterns, habit for profit.

BUT! oh a restaurant owner can't have my name + email address because of privacy and god, what will they use it for?
PUBLIC HEALTH is something that should trump -to some extent- individual needs/privacy.

And another though: how many here complaining about giving TTR info and have shop loyalty cards?

"Most people dont answer calls from numbers they dont know anyway."
Why? If it's scam you say bye and put it down. It might actually be valid... Why would you not answer?

I've been to a couple of places where I am pretty sure they would not have let us in if we had refused to give details. Others have your details anyway if you book online.

However, completely agree with this: Most people don't answer calls from numbers they don't know anyway because I am one of them and I don't intend to start now.

I did see on Twitter that women were being phoned by bar staff who fancied them. How else would they have obtained their number?

FippertyGibbett · 23/08/2020 16:59

I suppose you could give false details ?

MrsWhites · 23/08/2020 17:06

I’ll also admit to giving a fake number, we were literally a min of 10m from the nearest person, had to order via an app so didn’t come into contact with any staff other than for them to put the food on the table, which they put on the end of the table and immediately stepped back.

I’ve taken the lockdown restrictions very seriously but I’m sorry, no way am I considering self isolating just because someone metres away from me may or may not have been contagious when we happened to be in the same vicinity!

It amazes me that for years people (especially women), have been told "never give out your personal details to anybody you don't know in a social setting , stay safe". Now it's "why would anybody not give out personal information to somebody you don't know in a pub?....it's the responsible thing to do!"

Strange how the safety of women just doesn't matter anymore to some.

I give out a fake number
I might just get a digit wrong on the stress of the moment.

Me and DH went to our favourite bar for the first time in 5 months two weeks ago. They'd made a big hoohah about their 'state of the art' T&T system all over social media. When we arrived, we walked straight in - there was nobody to take our details and nobody to leave them with. At the bar I asked if we should give our details but the barman said that the 'girl who did that was on her break'. We had one drink and left, as was our plan.

Last week it was in the local paper/news that the bar had closed because 3 members of staff had tested positive. However everybody who had come into contact with them had been notified via their track and trace system. We have absolutely no idea whether we did or not.

@TheSunIsStillShining I entirely agree.

But yes data protection should mean handwritten lists aren't left out and staff are warned very clearly about possible prosecution for misuse of data.

And there has to be a system/law to make sure that anyone using it for personal gain can be reported to police who will deal with it + can be sued.
