To think that the Daily Mail is catching on about schools

I've been following what the DM is saying about schools, I've criticized the stock photos of SD classrooms, I've been watching the comments change from - mainly lazy feckless teachers can't be bothered to teach to more and more people questioning the government plan.

Now they have started dating the SD classroom pictures (I've put a screenshot for those that don't want to click) I think they are getting ready for posting pictures of September's reality. The paper is becoming more and more critical of the government and it also want to sell papers /get clicks. The school reality will enrage the core demographic of their readers. Whilst it is still a pro return as normal piece it does say three out of 1000 senior kids will need hospitalisation.

They’re still banging on about unions blocking schools starting back in September. As a follower of Edutwitter, a union member and a reader of various different types of ‘news‘, the only place I have ever seen talk of blocking schools going back is in trashy newspapers! They are trying to fabricate a situation where the Tories SMASH and defeat the unions and get schools OPEN and come out as the victors. This is total fiction though-there’s no question that the schools won’t open.

The point the teachers, unions and many parents are trying to make though, is if you don’t take any sensible steps to mitigate risk, they won’t stay open very long.

Yet things like
Funding for soap/hand washing facilities.
Funding for additional staffing so classes don’t have to close when a teacher is unwell/self isolating.
Temperature checks on entry to be considered.
Evidence of a negative test to be required before returning a child to school.
Masks to be worn wherever possible-especially in busy corridors and secondary schools.

Should be in place, and they’re not. Any teacher or union member that suggests them gets accused in the Mail as blocking school reopening and not thinking of the children.

Sorry, OP-I have ranted. That’s v interesting re the dated photo-hoping you’re right!
