Confused about Test and Trace

Suppose that person A has tested positive for Covid19 and visited a restaurant the day before symptoms developed.

The restaurant has a list of people who went in on that day but no record of their arrival/departure times.

Are test and trace going to contact everyone on that list and ask them to self isolate?

What if person B went in just after opening and was the only customer there?

What if person C went in later (and may or may not have been there at the same time as person A) but did not go within two metres of another customer?

Did A stay within 2m of someone for 15 minutes? Why would the restaurant have no record of when people arrived or where they were sitting?

I imagine there would be a general announcement for people who visited the establishment to look out for symptoms and to maintain social distancing rather than asking everyone to self isolate

We went out on Sunday and wrote the date and time down?

I haven't been to a restaurant lately but I've heard mixed stories about how thorough they are with keeping these records.

I've been out twice recently (eat out to help out) and had to book in advance and then sign in when we got there so they have our details.

Bishybarnybee · 18/08/2020 17:36

I wondered this. We've eaten out a few times, always sat outside and had minimal contact with anyone, but have used toilets sometimes. We've been v careful with handwashing. Left name and phone number but not clear if we'd need to isolate if we haven't really been near anyone. Luckily so far no calls.....

Iwantacookie · 18/08/2020 17:42

Once again I've been out for lunch and no details taken. It certainly wont work if places arent taking details.

minnieok · 18/08/2020 17:55

Restaurants and pubs write down your arrival time. In any case they can see the order of arrival, if the infected person arrives 50 people later I think common sense says they didn't cross over

ScrapThatThen · 18/08/2020 17:56

At motorway service stations there are just QR codes on the tables for people to self register. At the restaurant we went to yesterday we filled in a form but it was taken off us at the door before we knew our table number to write on it.

Pizza hut have the option to not be included which I find odd, you just tick a box to opt out of test and trace (we didn't opt out). The whole system is a joke. And the person in charge of test and trace is now going to be in charge of PHEs replacement, flipping joke.

It's law here. They take details or you scan the app and input your own. If they note your information they note the time. If you use the app it does the job for you.

SandieCheeks · 18/08/2020 18:07

I think Test & Trace would rely on asking the infected person who they had contact with...

I've been out to a few pubs/restaurants now and a total mix of booking in advance or on an app, writing down your phone number on a shared sheet of paper or no details taken at all.

Some may do that but it's absolutely not a universal practice. My experience is the exact opposite, very little information gathering at all
dementedpixie · 18/08/2020 18:26

Think its mandatory in Scotland that they take details. Don't know about England

dementedpixie · 18/08/2020 18:28

In order to support NHS Scotland’s Test and Protect service, it is mandatory for all hospitality businesses – such as pubs, restaurants and cafes – to gather, record and retain minimal contact information from non-takeaway customers, visitors and staff. Where customers are attending as a small household group, the contact details for one member of each household – a ‘lead member’ – will be sufficient alongside the number of people attending from each household. If a business offers a mixture of a sit-in and takeaway service, contact information only needs to be collected for customers who are dining in.

I've been to Costa and Starbucks to sit in recently and neither have asked me for details and when I asked they just looked surprised and said no, I don't need to do that.

Seems to be a bit wishy washy in england with it being guidance rather than mandatory
