Random vomiting episode I don't have to self isolate so I?

I felt weird all day yesterday, just a bit down and spacey nothing too physical. Thought I was hungover Blush but hadn't drunk that much.

Anyway, went to cinema with a friend yesterday, had a little snack beforehand and one drink. Came home, suddenly felt ill, sat on the sofa then suddenly felt nauseous. Vomited twice. Went to bed vomited twice more in the night.

Feel washed out today but not nauseous, just a headache.

Seems like a bug or food poisoning. Just checking I don't have to isolate in case it's covid 19? Seems unlikely as no temperature or cough etc

Friend ate and drank the same as me and hasn't been Ill. Dh and kids also fine Confused

I've had norovirus a few times and felt like that really.

I would isolate in the sense that you probably have a stomach bug and shouldn’t be spreading it around.

Flagsfiend · 16/08/2020 13:37

No you don't need to isolate for covid. But should stay home for 48 hours after last vomiting episode so you don't spread whatever you have got around, no one wants a vomiting bug.

sleepingnow · 16/08/2020 13:38

Thanks Haworth I've no plans to go anywhere for a couple of days so was going to follow the 48 hour rule they use in schools. But covid is a week I think?

You dont need to isolate due to covid. You should probably stay in 48 hours incase its a sickness bug. A few weeks ago I had a random vomiting episode in the middle of bathing my daughter that went on a few hours then I was fine

Flagsfiend · 16/08/2020 13:42

Covid is 10 days from start of symptoms and household for 2 weeks (although best plan would be to get a test in this situation). Stomach bug is 48 hours from end of symptoms, but household can continue as normal.

sleepingnow · 16/08/2020 14:35

Thanks all. We do have a test centre locally but not sure it's worth it for this.

Do you have a cough, high temp or loss or change in taste or smell?

Realitea · 16/08/2020 19:15

Just get a test. I would!

FelicityBob · 16/08/2020 19:57

Why not actually read the nhs website, which says:

You can get a test:

for yourself, if you have coronavirus symptoms now (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
for someone you live with, if they have symptoms
if you live in England and have been told to have a test before you go into hospital, for example, for surgery
if your local council asks you to get a test

I have read that guidance on testing. That's why I didn't get a test. That's why I responded not sure it's worth it for this Confused

My thread was about whether I should consider self isolating.

Vomiting is not a symptom.

RandomTree · 16/08/2020 20:20

Go for a test if you're worried - it's straightforward and then you'll know for sure.

FelicityBob · 16/08/2020 20:22

Sorry my comment was more aimed at Realitea who said to just get a test.
As for isolation, well I guess it’s the same rules. It’s not a main symptom of covid so no you don’t need to isolate for 14 days, but do what you feel comfortable with. Hope you feel better soon

BwanaMakubwa · 16/08/2020 20:24

@SummerNamechangeHappened

Vomiting is not a symptom.
Just keep an eye. My friend had gastro-covid (positive test) and did indeed vomit all week, he lost a stone.

My possible covid started with a "hangover" feeling, dizziness, loss of appetite and nausea then diarrhea, the sore throat and chest issues kicked in later in the week.

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/08/2020 20:25

probably a bug, 48 hours isolate

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/08/2020 20:27

Meant to add, see how you feel after 48 hrs.
