Track and Trace - how long?

I went out with some friends last Wednesday. I was asked to go and was just excited to be out. But now I massively regret it. I was extremely careful - didn't go near anyone and religiously used hand sanitizer and it felt safe but if I get asked to self isolate for 14 days this will be a disaster for my family. When do you think I can feel I'm in the clear? I won't go out again for a long time.

If any of them had it they will be asked for details of anyone they were in close contact with in the previous 48 hours

SengaStrawberry · 15/08/2020 20:24

If you didn’t go near anyone why would you be worried? If you weren’t within 2m of anyone surely the chances of being contacted are minuscule

They say it can be up to 14 days for incubation but I read somewhere it’s more typically around 5 days x

Is this true? Do they not contact everyone in the restaurant?

No they contact anyone who was in close contact (within 2 metres) for over 15 minutes, not everyone who was there. They might generally ask anyone else who were there to look out for symptoms

helpfulperson · 15/08/2020 21:27

No, they make decisions depending in circumstances eg layout of restaurant. Initially it is 48 hrs they go back but if there is an outbreak it may be further and expanded.

Ok that makes sense / thanks

Close contact means:
having face-to-face contact with someone (less than 1 metre away)
spending more than 15 minutes within 2 metres of someone
travelling in a car or other small vehicle with someone (even on a short journey) or close to them on a plane
if you work in – or have recently visited – a setting with other people (for example, a GP surgery, a school or a workplace)

From gov website

And it’s 14 days from when you had contact with the infected person so could feasibly be near the end of that before they even contact you

dementedpixie · 15/08/2020 21:35

Depending on the circumstances and the length of time that has elapsed, this could include arranging for people to be tested, asking them to take extra care with social distancing and/or – in some circumstances – asking them to self-isolate

(From gov website)

itsgettingweird · 15/08/2020 21:47

Test and trace is for people who have been within 2m of each other for more than 15 minutes.

So even if you went out it doesn't mean you'll be called for a case if you followed SD etc.

northprincess · 15/08/2020 23:12

Thanks everyone and I thought I actually understood this!

I think the details they take at restaurants etc are more for if there is an outbreak rather than test and trace. If it is set up properly you shouldn't be within 2m of guests you didn't come with for more than 15mins. However if there seems to be lots of cases linked to a particular location, they may then need to contact more people who were there to test or isolate them. If that is the case it will probably also be reported in local media.

FinnyStory · 16/08/2020 11:29

How would they know who OP had been in contact with for more than 15min?

This bothers me too. I'm not going anywhere because DH is isolating ahead of an op but if someone in a pub tests positive, how would anyone know which of the other clients needs contacting?

Yes this is what confuses me!

Thats why the restaurants have to take contact details and bookings in advance so they know who is in the building and at what time

Restaurants down here are not taking bookings so they can avoid no shows. They are taking contact details though. Not exactly a great solution, as you could say you are anybody.

Yes but if it's a large venue how do they know who you've been near?

If you're seated would they not have your table number? Dont know how it works in pubs, haven't been in one
