Booking a test

I'm trying to book a test for DD (pretty certain it's a cold but better safe eh?)

It's showing my nearest test site as 45 minutes away (which is balls, there's a closer one), and only offering me appointments that have either already started or start in half an hour. It says to be there for the start of the appointment slot.

I've tried the further away ones and again, only showing appointments for 3 to 3:30, we couldn't get there by then.

If I call the one that's closer can I get an appointment over the phone?

Has anyone else had this issue?

Just realised the closer one is keyworkers only (which I am). We were originally told our families were eligible too but the online form doesn't seem to allow for that. Gah!

Can you order an at home test or do you need to do it today?

Just order a home test?

I went to our local one a week or 2 ago. It was not well labelled and the entrance to the car park it was in was blocked off and no diversion given. Despite passing it at the correct time, we spent the next 25 min going round the one way system trying to find an alternative entrance to the bloody place (nearly all the roads were one way or no through road) Anyway we were 20 min late but no one even mentioned it.

I've managed to get in at one further away that was showing more appointments (I think the closer ones close earlier).

I just want to get it done ASAP so DH doesn't have to mess his work about for a snotty 3yo.

I'm sure we'll be doing a lot of faffing with tests in the next few months anyway (I'm a secondary teacher)

Follow up question:

Has anyone only managed to do the nostril bit on a child, got a pretty snotty sample and still had a valid result?

I did a nostril sample for my toddler and got a negative result.

@yummychoccy

I did a nostril sample for my toddler and got a negative result.
Thanks.

If feel like if it's inconclusive I'll have fucked everything up (even though I know it was the right thing to test and not just go 'lalalalalala just a cold just a cold'), DH is mean't to be on-site for a customer on Tuesday and DH and DD are meant to be camping Weds-Sun.

I'm sure you're not meant to get bogies in it (she did try her best to blow her nose first), but we shall see I guess.
