For school staff to wear a mask sometimes????

I work in a school. I've been reading the government guidelines and they say the only time to wear a mask is if coronavirus is suspected. Surely it should be acceptable for staff to wear a mask for other occasions, such as seeing to an injured child.
I work with young children and they cough and sneeze without a thought, not to mention just spitting as they talk sometimes. I think what if they're asymptomatic, but still pass it on.
If you are bending over a child's knee to clean up a wound, you're not going to be able to prevent them from sneezing in your face!
My main job at the school is first aid..so for the time I'm there I'll be continuously in this situation and won't be in a particular bubble.
I can feel my anxiety growing as September approaches, but don't know if I'm worrying too much?
I was thinking maybe a visor would be better than nothing, then child can see face expressions, but would protect from spray. Also surely the staff member would be protecting the child also.

Any thoughts welcome and sorry if someone has already written about this.

Sorry, I didn't mean to put so many question marks!

I don't see why you couldn't wear a mask in those situations if you wanted to.
I don't wear a mask for work, but I am a first aider and would want to for that.

I think it should be up to the staff member to be honest. I dont think it's safe to be breathing in 30 odd others expelled air, close contact definatly a visor, I'm provide with a visor as I'll be 3rd trimester but that wont protect from breathing anything in I think the visor was a token gesture at health and safety in regard to me being in work when they probably shouldnt have me in, I dont know. I dont think it's good enough having not having masks when they have just imposed higher fines for not wearing them so what's up with that.

I think staff should be able to wear a mask in all situations where they are not actively teaching (I do think it's an issue when teaching, though a visor would be less obstructive). If I were a member of staff I'd do it, and dare the headteacher to say a word. But join a teaching union first. I have little time for certain aspects of the teaching unions' activities, but I would certainly want their support if I had a stupid headteacher as my bos..

It's standard to wear ppe/mask to administer first aid at school now. DH had to several times last term for children who were in. Check your school risk assessment.

They can't stop you.

We've been told to wear one if we feel we need to. I'm thinking about doing so for the first couple of weeks, tbh, although I don't think it's ideal for teaching. I just can't see myself being able to be 2m (or even 1m) away from the children all the time. And I teach the whole school.
