Has Covid made any difference to what you would usually do with them?

I'm finding that there are no holiday clubs running.

We've been going to lots of parks but that gets old quickly.

Have been mainly avoiding indoor activities but beginning to think feck it and just get on as usual.

We'd usually go swimming quite a bit but our local pools aren't allowing children.

We've done daily dog walks - finding new ones too which is always good
Kayaking - with dog
Dog paddling pool (can you see a theme here?)
Dog friendly beaches
Play dates with other dogs with kids on bikes
Play dates with other dogs with new walk based attractions (Faversham Gunpowder Works for eg)
Pokemon on dog walks
Other than that things at home - tie dye, gelly barf, water balloons and sprinkler mainly. Bored as fook and glad grandpa is here for a few days to take the load off and play Roblox as I sure as heck am not going to!

Uhoh2020 · 12/08/2020 22:58

I've only done these things with my own household

Bb14 · 12/08/2020 23:03

Beaches every day. Bought wetsuits for bad weather

jmh740 · 12/08/2020 23:19

Still in lockdown and oh is shielding. Dd13 has met her friends a couple of times and been to the pleasure Beach pre extra lockdown she is now spending most of her time in her room, we went uniform shopping last week. Ds 10 is anxious when we go out and just wants to he at-home hes spent far too much time on the xbox but at least he can chat to his friends there. We've been on a few walks, but I'm struggling to find safe things they want to do

Thegreymethod · 12/08/2020 23:46

I'm really just trying to survive it one day at a time! I'm a sahm so been with the children 24/7 since March (not complaining I know it's so hard to sort childcare or work from home!) Husband is working longer hours extra days to keep up with demand/ help cover holidays/sick days so different from usual summer holidays, which I usually love! We're right next to a lockdown area so whilst we're not in it all our family and friends are so can't meet up! We're just going for lots of walks and been to the beach a few evenings once it's a bit quieter. Husband got annual leave next week and I can't wait....... but we're decorating so not sure why I'm so excited!

Summers felt pretty normal on the whole. My DD is at nursery still, so she goes there 3 days a week but inbetween, parks, play dates, beaches, UK holiday, visited the in-laws, outdoor splash park, the zoo, strawberry picking, local farms, many a picnic .. it’s been lovely!

I’m in a lockdown area now so we can’t see family or friends in the garden but we can meet them in the park, day trips etc .. which is daft but that’s what we’ve been doing. It’s not made much difference really as thankfully the weather has been warm for going out & about.

I’m dreading winter 😩

Insearchoffitness · 13/08/2020 07:26

Thanks.

I'm really torn. We had a week away and we've got another week booked but I kept dc away from all the busy places and it was lovely.

Looking online there are loads of places open, some I didn't even realise, trampoline parks, indoor museums.

I had it in my mind I'd avoid all indoor things because I'm still a bit nervous.

But part of me thinks sod it and book a couple of things in. We already did the zoo and safari park when they first opened.

@Uhoh2020 What was the trampoline park like? Was thinking about taking my kids today but am a bit nervous about it.

InDubiousBattle · 13/08/2020 07:55

Uhoh2020
We're in the Bradford area. The 3 local swimming pools are still shut. The local-ish library has re opened but only to return books and pick up pre ordered books so it's not an activity IYSWIM, also they're usually great for organising events throughout summer. Last year Bradford had a literature festival with loads of free events on over summer that kept us entertained but obviously there's nothing like that. We're still not allowed to meet family/friends either in houses or gardens but we can go for a walk so we're doing that tomorrow. Most local play grounds are still locked up, I've found two that have opened but their toilets are still closed. We can go shopping or eat out. The kids are just bored of walks!

Allthepinkunicorns · 13/08/2020 07:58

I haven't really been taking ds anywhere indoors. We go to the park every day for a couple of hours and that's it really, we have done a few walks and been to the beach. Normally we would have a couple of days out a week and a holiday but I've quite enjoyed the quieter pace of life and ds doesn't seem too bored. Ds actually sat down and built a lego set by himself yesterday.

happypotamus · 13/08/2020 08:35

Despite everyone (family, friends, colleagues) telling me that everything is open again now, most of the places we would normally go in the school holidays are not. The library is not, the free or very cheap local museums are not, the swimming pool is not for kids fun swimming only adult lane swimming, the child-friendly cafes are not open and probably never will, the local small animal park reopened this week but is fully booked already. We have mostly been going to the park, the same park we have been going to almost daily since March. I can't drive, DH isn't taking any time off work, so we can't explore anywhere further away that might be open. I am struggling to persuade DC to turn off screens and go outside.

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 13/08/2020 19:29

Everything I normally would. Thankfully I don't need hokidya clubs for childcare.
So we do :
Pool days
Craft days
Meet with my sil in either garden or so where local.. There has been times when it's been indoors and kids in playroom.
Same with a friend.
County Park
Forest
Local beach ( not when it's been hot) cooler days late pm when no one there
Cinema
Parks some local some we've driven to for a change of scenery.
Feed the ducks.
Funfair

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 13/08/2020 19:30

Oh and a local charity run farm.

girlicorne · 13/08/2020 23:03

Mainly theme parks, we have a merlin pass and are less than an hour from Alton Towers so we have been there 6 times, we have been away to Cornwall for a week, we have done two days at a theme park further away and next week we are going to the Lincolnshire coast for a few days. The last week before school we have some more theme park days and camping bank holiday weekend. It’s just been a normal summer for us really with more planning and prebooking and ensuring we wear masks and distance of course!

Bol87 · 14/08/2020 00:14

People going to the same parks on repeat? Can you not venture further afield?! I’ve been to about 15 different ones this summer. Plus country parks, the seaside, things like strawberry picking, farms?! There’s lots of things open with Covid safe procedures! And surely, if nothing else, meet family & friends. Take a picnic, buy ice creams and let the kids play with their friends? Or have a nice lunch or bbq in the garden? Or leave kids with Dad & go to a pub/cafe/restaurant with some family or friends etc

Even with these local lockdown rules, I’m seeing friends a couple times a week & we go on day trips at the weekend!

Surely, there must be life to be found!

C33P0 · 14/08/2020 00:52

I am starting to feel a bit weary of this summer too, like some of the PP. I have DC aged almost 6 and almost 3. We've been camping with family for a couple of nights, and we have a cottage booked for a week in the UK at the end of the summer holidays.

The rest of the time, we usually do one or two bigger day trips per week (we've done beach, safari park, minature railway/fairy walk place, lots of National Trust), then on the other days we just go out for the morning to parks/playgrounds locally, or go on a bike ride in the village. We have met up with family, but not much with friends.

We'd love to go swimming but it's only open for lane swimming at the moment. Might try a museum next week as one has just opened.
