Detaining kids

I'm confused by the article I've just read. Where it says they can detain kids if tested positive for covid. Accidently posted in aibu and didn't realise the whole article pasted. Does anyone know anything about this? A friend seems to believe they just take your kids away for 14 days I can't believe that could actually happen.

It’s rubbish.

Social service struggle enough to care for all the children who need it so where would the care come for these children?

x2boys · 11/08/2020 21:23

Yes agree with @Sirzy it's got to be rubbish ,why would they be detaining them? If a child tests positive it's likely the family will too ,it doesn't make sense .

How do people believe stuff like this?

Apolloanddaphne · 12/08/2020 19:30

Of course they won't do that. Think about it logically.

Toughtips · 12/08/2020 19:45

That's why I wanted others opinions as I thought about it logically lol. Some people just love the hysteria

I don't understand how any one could possibly think this was true!

Was it about New Zealand - that 'land of the free' seem to be a bit draconian at the moment.

Certainly not in the UK and I hope it never will be but the ease with which they have curtailed all sorts of human rights so far it really wouldn't surprise me. We have a few steps to get through first though,

Is this part of the tin foil hat brigade and their "new order" that is coming? Uts all bollocks and just conspiracy nuts trying to pass off their theories. There is one on our local news site and is constantly telling us that the new order is controlling us with the fake coronavirus, and that detention centres are being built for people who won't obey the new order. Its all totally fucking barking mad.

Motorina · 15/08/2020 19:47

It's covered under Schedule 21 of the Coronavirus Act, available at www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2020/7/contents. But, yes, legally they can detain anyone (adult or child) for 48 hours and require them to have a test, and, if positive, detain them for up to 14 days.

As far as I'm aware, it has not been used.

Someone I know shared some nonsense like this on Facebook last week I was fuming because people actually believe it. Apparently it’s under the Covid act 2020 but the person whose post she shared didn’t actually quote the legislation just their own ridiculous conspiracy theory. I assume under the law social services may have the power to intervene for example if you refuse to collect a symptomatic child from school but I refuse to believe head teachers are going to be taking children for a test then taking them away from their parents for two weeks. I despair that people actually believe this utter rubbish!
