Greater Manchester schools, extra restrictions, and shielding

Anyone else within GM and wondering what will happen regarding schools and shielding considering the extra restrictions?
My dc can't visit their vulnerable granny but can go to school and bring germs home to extremely clinically vulnerable me. It's madness. Dc are worried as am I.
I'm not in Oldham where shielding is continuing btw.

Restrictions have been renewed for GM and the other northern areas with a review scheduled for next week. That takes us to 2 weeks before school opens and cases are continuing to rise. I feel more anxious now than I did at the beginning of all this. I'd feel less anxious if those of us who were shielded were shielded again. It was a choice before and giving people that choice again would be good although I know it's not good for the economy. This is shit.

I reckon, from what I have read on the news/twitter that schools will open but if necessary, they will close other things.

I'm in Oldham and it is a bit worrying but bear in mind that even there, not all areas are bad. There are two major hotspots, then some areas with very few cases and some with none.

Can you inform the school and discuss options? They are meant to have contingency plans for if shielding is reintroduced, which it might be if your area is very high by the start of school, and knowing their plans could help.

That's a good idea @MRex. I have expressed concerns previously but that was before they broke up for the summer and before GM was put under enhanced restrictions. Dd1 will be in a bubble of 360+, dd2 similar, ds still at primary and class bubbles but they might mix at break times and good luck getting 5 year olds to be hygienic. Ds is very good at hand washing but picking bogies and eating them is proving a hard habit to break I'm working hard on the coughing and sneezing into a tissue or elbow if needs must but he's 5 and forgets if he's caught by surprise. Ds has a staggered start and finish time and I'll get there as early as possible as he's one of the first in and back out. It's such a worrying time.

It is worrying for you I'm sure, it's a very different picture across the country and it's wise for people to stay on top of the risk in their local area. Hopefully infections will dramatically reduce soon in your area.

Unlikely the way people are ignoring the rules here 🙄 I live on a small road of only a handful of houses and everyone has had family visiting or friends coming over for drinks or going out together for drinks. It's impossible not to notice due to the noise levels and the weather has meant lots of garden get togethers. My ASD can't handle rule breaking so I try to ignore it but it's difficult when other peoples behaviour is affecting vulnerable people like me and means these restrictions will go on even longer.
