Are dentists doing appointments again ?!

So I had a root canal filling done pretty much at the start of the year, I only had the first part of it done but because of coronavirus the second appointment was cancelled! I now have a massive hole in my tooth that is pretty painful and sensitive!!! I don't enjoy eating at all, I spoke to the dentist a couple of weeks ago to ask if they were doing appointments and told her why I wanted to come in and she said she would speak to the dentist to see if I would be able to, She also said she would ring the next day to let me know but she never did! So I rang her back and she said that they still aren't seeing patients yet but would give me a call in a couple of weeks for an appointment? I'm in so much pain and have been for a while now. Are dentists supposed to be open and seeing people for appointments yet?! I don't think I would class this as an emergency but painkillers aren't doing anything.

Same here. In the middle of two root canals.

Was told they were waiting for PPE but that was over a month ago now.

It's just a joke!!

I came on to see if dentists were doing routine kid checkups again but OP this is awful! Hope you get an apt soon

Heatherjayne1972 · 11/08/2020 07:27

Lot of nhs dentists are only doing emergency treatment still
Private dentists ( the ones I work in anyway) are doing normal routine work

trinity0097 · 11/08/2020 07:27

My dentist is doing routine and emergency work, for existing and new clients.

Where do you live?

lorn195 · 11/08/2020 07:32

Our dentist cancelled our routine appointments but if I hadn't rung up I wouldn't have known about this. The receptionist said there was a letter in post Confused which didn't arrive. They said they were only doing emergency appointments for the foreseeable.

winniesanderson · 11/08/2020 07:35

Only emergency work at our nhs dentist too. They cancelled our appointments which were due to take place last week and next week and have asked that we keep an eye on their website to find out when they'll be reopening further.

APurpleSquirrel · 11/08/2020 07:41

Our NHS dentists are only doing emergency appointments at the moment, though according to the emails I've received from them updating us on their progress they've also spent in excess of half a million £s on PPE & new systems to scrub the air etc.
They're planning to start routine child appointments soon - which is good as my two DCs appointments were cancelled at the start of lockdown.
I'd have thought your situation would constitute an emergency though - could you ring 111 & see if you can get referred to another dentist?

Eyewhisker · 11/08/2020 07:51

Private dentists are doing a full service. I had a root canal done a month ago

emelsie · 11/08/2020 07:52

That's awful , me and my children have different dentists and both of them actually contacted me to arrange to for us to come in for checks ups, which we all did , a few weeks ago now .

Maybe you should call around see if there is any dentist willing to see you?

ProfOf · 11/08/2020 07:55

In Scotland. Had a filling done privately last week and also my overdue hygiene appt. DH at another dentist could only get extraction as treatment. Unfortunately, my dentist not taking on new customers for next few months.

My dentist is in Halifax! I think for mine to be an emergency they said a while ago that my gums and face would have to be swollen from it !!!

My children have their routine check-up today as planned 6months ago. They are obviously the lucky few.

pinkpip100 · 11/08/2020 10:53

Emergency only at ours but they are fairly broad about what is an emergency - my dd lost a small filling and they were happy to see her. I went this morning for a cracked filling and lots of pain, turns out I need root canal work that they will start tomorrow. Hopefully I won't be left with it half done like pp.

RedRosie · 11/08/2020 12:00

Sounds painful.

I'm just back from the dentist (BUPA) who are offering a full service. There's a PPE charge (from 7-40 quid depending on procedure). Lots of new protocols etc but otherwise as normal.

I guess this is all more difficult for the NHS providers?

Fletchings · 11/08/2020 12:04

Our NHS dentist is waiting for 'new legislation'. Wtf!

I think this is becoming a joke now. Anyone know what the actual issue is???
