Swimming pool safe?

Donut93 · 10/08/2020 17:12

I've got a little 6mo and she's never been swimming!
There's a local pool you can book an hour to yourself so was looking to go this week but my partners fully against it? Saying it's dirty and not safe.
He's been to the pub plenty of times, has been mixing with other households at his friends house, been in the car with them and we've taken her to the park on the swings ect.
You can't use the changing rooms and there is sanitiser ect. So I really don't understand why he thinks all of the above is okay but taking her for an hour swim isn't?

The baby won’t be allowed too
Adults only
So don’t bother debating anymore

Quartz2208 · 10/08/2020 17:15

How is he with other stuff that you do? Because no that doesnt make sense!

Nacreous · 10/08/2020 17:18

I think that that sounds fine if they don't mind the baby being in, but I imagine it will depend on their public liability insurance etc, so do check.

Donut93 · 10/08/2020 17:18

@Quartz2208 always seems like a big effort in being able to do things. He's wanting me to go out with him on the weekend to his friends birthday party which is in a smelly pub and to leave baby with grandparents, but not allowed to take her swimming with myself..

I think you have more of a relationship issue than a coronavirus one Im afraid OP. Maybe repost

Barbie222 · 10/08/2020 17:22

I don't know of any pools operating "family splash", it's lessons or labs swimming only.

Waytoomuch82 · 10/08/2020 17:24

Op
Take a second to ring the centre

They are not allowing babies and children to swim (unless formal swim lessons)!!!!

Donut93 · 10/08/2020 17:29

I've already rang and they're allowing babies x

OP posts:
Waytoomuch82 · 10/08/2020 17:36

I doubt that.

Nacreous · 10/08/2020 17:42

Seeing as you can book a whole hour to yourself it seems quite plausible they wouldn't mind who you brought.

I think I would make the points you've made Op.

This is an enveloped virus so it is killed quite easily by chlorine so I wouldn't expect there to be a virus based safety issue with going to the pool.

Our local council run pool is allowing anyone. Numbers are strictly limited though. An hour session, max 20 per session (pool isn't small by any means) and bookable in advance, limited amount of sessions also - in think 3 or 4 a day.
TuckMyWin · 10/08/2020 17:57

Seriously people! I know of one pool doing family splash sessions, and at least two private pools renting out the pool to individual families. Just because your local pools aren't doing it, doesn't mean there are none in the entire country. You don't even know which country the OP is in!

OP- the water itself will be safe. Outside of the pool, if you're worried, sanitise your hands after touching anything. But I agree, it sounds like you've got a DP issue. Tell him he's not allowed to go to the pub, as you've decided it's too much of a risk...see how he likes it.

jblue2018 · 10/08/2020 18:47

OP we took our baby this morning !! She’s just over a year & hasn’t been since she was 7 months ish - she loved it !!! It was such a joy to see her splashing about. And obviously can’t speak for you’re local pool but ours was VERY clean !! I’d say go for it!

Spacemonkey2016 · 10/08/2020 18:54

We took our 3 year old and 6 month old for a family swim yesterday. Was fantastic. Dramatically reduced numbers, separate changing areas for going in/getting out so they could be cleaned after each session. Felt very safe.

DipSwimSwoosh · 10/08/2020 19:32

Our local pool will allow babies. I think it's great idea.

BunsyGirl · 10/08/2020 19:41

@Barbie222 Our local pool is operating “family sessions”. They divide the pool up into sections for each family to use.

BunsyGirl · 10/08/2020 19:45

OP, the pool will be fine. The chlorine will kill off anything. At my local pool, the changing rooms can’t be used on entry - you have to put your swim stuff on under your clothes and go straight to a locker and undress there. However, you can use the shower and changing room after being in the pool. It’s very, very clean. There are staff cleaning the changing room area constantly. Also, only certain lockers can be used at any one time. The others are out of use to keep people apart and to allow staff to clean them.

Dollycarton81 · 10/08/2020 19:51

All of our local council owned pools are allowing children and babies Confused

Layladylay234 · 10/08/2020 20:15

Yep,another person who says go. I took my ten week old and my 10 and 11 year old. I had to drive 45 mins to a pool that was open but it was great. You have to live your life otherwise you'll just end up with regrets

2155User · 10/08/2020 20:28

All the pools in my local area are allowing babies

So stop with the "no babies" rubbish

OverTheRainbow88 · 10/08/2020 20:51

@Waytoomuch82

How on earth do you know what pools around the UK are doing? We’re members of David LLoyd and the pool here is up and running are all, babies included.

AnnaMariaDreams · 11/08/2020 09:08

A pool near us is doing pre bookable family swim sessions- 1 hour a day and they run 2 slots at weekends.
Maximum 30 in the pool.
I’m taking DS tomorrow

Darcydashwood · 12/08/2020 05:53

Why are some posters categorically stating family swims are not allowed!! Our local pool is doing Family Swims Confused The baby pool is divided into quarters and you get a quarter to yourself for an hour!

leasedaudi · 12/08/2020 16:47

My leisure centre currently allow "adult and child" sessions but no lessons. I took my toddler on fri, sat and sun. It was wonderful and not crowded due to limited slot availability.
