Quarantine buddies - anybody out there also paying the price for having got away?

Just back from Tenerife.

Holiday was planned almost a year ago, when Covid was not on the horizon.
Flew out after quarantining for Spain was lifted, all of Spain back on the list shortly after our arrival. Foreign Office continued to advice to stay put and not cut holiday short (would have cost several ££££ to bring 5 of us back at short notice anyway, was prohibitive).

So, lovely time was had, we are now back and my hope against hope that the Canaries would have had some sort of special dispensation has obviously not come to pass. Ho hum. Sitting at home, will be working from home, DSs will be missing start of school (Scotland) and dog is under walked....

Anybody else who'd like a moan and mutual support? Wine

Nothing at all self centred about a post querying the science behind the restrictions @LadyPenelope68

It would be self centred if I were telling you I'm sticking my fingers up at the restrictions and doing what I want anyway (much like Dominic Cummings did with the rules he created).

But I'm not, I'm just reasonably stating that some of the restrictions are punitive because there is no public health risk. That is a fact and given that we live in a country where there is the right to free speech we have the right to discuss and moan about it if we wish whether you like it or not.

@user647647

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum.

If and when you are subject to the quarantine, it only applies to you and not the whole household as it is not the same as when one of you is symptomatic.

That means that your husband and child can come and go as they wish. There is no need either for you to isolate from them within the home, you just can't go out for the 14 days.

Oh yes, I realise they wouldn’t have to quarantine, I didn’t know if I could be in the house at the same time.

Maybe just be extra careful.

cantdothisnow1 · 23/08/2020 10:55

You can be in the house with them, no requirement for extra precautions unless you want to.

DuckonaBike · 23/08/2020 16:29

Thanks for the tips @ThatDirection! They all look good.

Yes, quarantining here! We booked our hols last year long before COVID was a thing. And after the dramas with home schooling we were desperate to get away to France. We cut our holiday short so that we could quarantine before school starts. We're just about coping now by staying in separate rooms and doing our own thing at home. Well worth it. Thank God for Ocado 😁

You're welcome @Oly4

The Times has an article today about testing at airports to cut quarantine to 7 days. I wonder if this will be implemented - although I think probably too late for us.

Pacif1cDogwood · 28/08/2020 08:00

So.

We were 'set free' from quarantine 1 week ago.
DS went to a friend's house the following day.
The day after that a friend of said friend tested positive.
DS is now self-isolating for a FURTHER 2 weeks.

Deep sigh.
All because a symptomatic teenager who's test was already booked was allowed out between being sent home from school and getting their test.

@Paci1cDogwood how incredibly annoying for you and your ds. Grrr!

Lemons1571 · 28/08/2020 11:07

I think the quarantine should allow exercise once a day, like the original lockdown. 14 days is in line with other self isolation periods though.

Also I guess they have to have a blanket rule for everyone, which applies regardless of the nature of your holiday (alone in a gite vs sightseeing in Paris).

Pacif1cDogwood · 28/08/2020 20:20

Unsurprisingly (and thankfully) DS has tested negative and remains well, but he will of course need to stay off school for a further week.

LOTS of his peers were told by the school 'just get tested and if negative come back to school' - THAT IS NOT THE CORRECT ADVICE!!

The public health message is too confusing and is not getting through.
It's because the messages are NOT blanket rules and too wishy-washy and are not enforced that far too many people seem to do as they like.

How’s everyone getting on? Anyone received a phone call or a visit yet? We are 10 days in and nothing yet...

JPduck · 29/08/2020 22:10

Just arrived back...... 13 days and counting!

CouldBeOuting · 30/08/2020 10:35

When we came back on euro tunnel the U.K. border control just asked us if we’d had a nice holiday and asked DS if he’d slept well as we had to wake him for passport check. No one mentioned quarantine or forms.... If we had been somewhere with no internet (which we have done before) we would have had no idea....

NearToCompletion · 30/08/2020 17:25

What a nightmare @Pacifi1cDogwood . We have 1 more full day to go woohoo
