How soon will kids get blamed for outbreaks in schools?

As well as having their lives turned upside down, someone should be warning kids that they'll soon be getting blamed for outbreaks around schools.

They'll get blamed for not social distancing (when there's no room anyway), not washing hands (when there's no time or too many queues) not wearing masks (when they are told not to but that's all forgotten about).

The media will be blaming kids for a second lock down. The government will be happy for kids to take the blame.

It's so predictable and depressing.

Its ok, the media will blame 'teachers' 'schools' and 'unions' not the children.

Quarantino · 09/08/2020 08:36

I think most people living in the real world realise that you can't effectively socially distance at school.

Anyone that blames kids is not very bright or worth listening to. The media blame anyone and everyone for anything while misreporting data - it's clickbait. Don't click on it.

Strictly1 · 09/08/2020 08:37

Don't worry - it will be the teachers fault. It always is and Ofsted will wade in and rubber stamp their incompetency and parents/media will be cross how schools/teachers have failed children.

Redlocks28 · 09/08/2020 08:38

The second the doors are open and Ofsted are back looming their pointless faces, the priority in schools will be attendance and academic test results-not hand washing and social distancing.

But then, I’m sure that people will start getting ill and the media will need to blame someone. I’m guessing they won’t be blaming Boris Johnson.

LastTrainEast · 09/08/2020 08:39

Some stupid people might. Kids have no real choice about being there and are by definition immature/irresponsible (to some degree). That's why they are not adults.

MarshaBradyo · 09/08/2020 08:39

No the media won’t blame children

ssd · 09/08/2020 08:43

Silly me, of course I should have realised it's the teachers who will be blamed, especially if they dare to complain.
And anyone saying the media won't blame kids, you are joking right? The media will blame anyone apart from the government.

The teachers will get the blame, they are the modern scapegoats for all ills with society.

Kaiserin · 09/08/2020 09:35

Roughly 5 minutes after schools reopen, and the first social media pictures of kids not social-distancing emerge, the media will blame "feckless (especially single) parents" for having raised "out-of-control feral kids".

The most vitriolic tabloid writers will suggest the kids should all be interned in army-like camps till the pandemic is over, so that their lazy parents can finally get weaned off the furlough teat, and get back to work.

Oh, and something about teachers/unions... Traitors, probably?

museumum · 09/08/2020 09:40

The kids (assume you actually mean teenagers) generally know better than to consume the media you are talking about. If only their parents would refuse to bring the rags into the house too.

SlipperSwan · 09/08/2020 09:45

The media and public will blame teachers and "the unions", not the children

Too true.

It’ll be the Unions yes, then by default the teachers

This, exactly this.

It's not that simple. Teenagers have smart phones, news, tabloids story headlines are more readily consumed by teenagers than ever before

Totally agree, our primary has already sent letters about attendance, whilst simultaneously listing the reasons why children would need to self isolate, test etc. Parents can’t win!!

walksen · 09/08/2020 09:59

Kids won't get the blame; schools will for not implementing the guidance correctly; just like care homes.

Not caring about social distancing is not unique to kids either. Worldwide younger people least affected by the virus are having parties and driving infections.

Some young people feel they have been screwed over by a system making it hard to impossible to buy their own homes, short-changed on their future ( since the majority of younger people voted remain etc), the least secure and worst paid working environment for generations and that was before lockdown. Hard to not have sympathy with them

Yep-‘we told teachers to stay 2m away from anyone. If they got it, they weren’t following the guidance so it’s their own fault. Or, they must have caught it in the pub, not school, because schools are safe.’
3hoursofPeppa · 09/08/2020 10:07

The information I have heard from Sweden is that even though they admit they should have implemented a stricter lockdown, they have never shut schools there and have no significant outbreaks connected with schools. I'm interested to see what happens in Scotland when schools reopen next week but hoping it's the same.

HeronLanyon · 09/08/2020 10:08

i wouldn’t give a second’s notice to anyone who would dare blame children for any outbreaks at schools.
Teachers and their union/s are doing their best to make it work when in reality it looks unworkable.
I worry that children may feel some responsibility - that would be awful.

lonelyplanet · 09/08/2020 12:46

I think it will be parents who are named and shamed for going to the pub, showing symptoms, refusing to get tested and sending their child to school. It will be traced back.

All of the head lines from today like 'NO RISK' will be quickly changed and forgotten about come October or before with 'SUPER SPREADERS' or similar

Julmust · 09/08/2020 19:40

The media and Boris are gearing up to blame teachers/unions/kids. None of it will be because there's been no extra funding for cleaning/extra accomodation/extra staff/washing facilities or gel. Poor old Boris wanted all the kids to go back but was let down by the above Sad

ineedaholidaynow · 09/08/2020 19:42

www.tes.com/news/have-swedish-schools-really-carried-normal

This is an article about how Swedish schools coped. Not really carrying on as normal.

And yes I am sure it will be the teachers that get the blame both from the media and probably from a number of parents especially if they are working and have to self isolate their child on numerous occasions.

CarrieBlue · 09/08/2020 20:14

It won’t be kids blamed, not when there are feckless, workshy Trotskyite teachers to blame.
