Pregnant teachers 3rd tri

gettingupearlyzzzz · 05/08/2020 09:57

I just wondered what all pregnant teachers, particularly 3rd tri, are going to do come September? I would only be in school for 6 weeks before going on Mat leave but should I be working from home? I am so unsure now!
Any advice greatly received, thank you Smile

I work in a school not teaching but I will be in contact with all of the children through out the day. As it stands I will be in, i dont think i should be but apparently as it's safe as sheilding is paused. If it gets reinstated again i dont think I will be allowed in as we are considered higher risk in our third trimester.

That's what I'm thinking....it's just not clear at the moment!
I wondered if anyone had any links to any good research?
How far are you @Pesimistic?

I'll be 35 weeks when school resumes. I think under current guidance I won't be in.

Two teachers in my school are due in november. They were both expected back in sept, but both have decided to take early maternity and not returning. Really crap situation. I had a baby in may and was told to stay home by the head until my maternity leave started in april

Sosogrow · 05/08/2020 23:27

My daughter's secondary school sent out their risk assessment that stated any pregnant women in the 3rd trimester will work from home.

gettingupearlyzzzz · 13/08/2020 09:21

I have a meeting scheduled with my head to discuss concerns......has anyone got any helpful points I can add to my list of concerns to discuss please? The more I can say, the more hopefully I can stay home!
Really do not want to go back at 32 weeks for 6 weeks!

I'm 27 weeks today so I'll be 29 when we return. I'm going to talk to my midwife at my 28 week appointment about my work situation as I realy think that they will get me in regardless as they will have to cover me and pay me wages, if I had my way I'd take early maternity but too late now. I'd bring up the fact that children can and do spread coronovirus and you shouldn't be in if you cant be kept 2m away from people, my risk assement states I'll be 1m from student with a plastic face shield (they dont make a difference) and I'll also be in the hall with a class of 30 for over 15 mins which is aparently the time to get infected from what I've heard. It's just not safe. I hope you get a better response than me. All my schools email and contact are off so icant even talk to anyone Angry

I'm not that far on yet, but I think my head assumes I'll take early maternity leave (not from 27 weeks but certainly 30 something) whereas I think they need to find me a role. Essentially that does mean creating one though because my job is to teach and there are no non-teaching roles! My union advised if there was no safe role you'd have to consider seeing if a doctor felt you should be signed off, but of course that would mean mat leave kicking in at 36 weeks. It's a frustrating situation.

Chanel05 · 13/08/2020 16:48

I'm 38 weeks when we return in September and will be in as normal for one week.

booklover164 · 13/08/2020 16:59

I'm in exactly the same situation. You need to request a pregnancy specific risk assessment.

I have spoken to my gp and union ( NEU) who have both said I should not be in school so late on in the pregnancy. In fact, the NEU says NO pregnant teachers should be in school, regardless of trimester.

I have a meeting next week about this but I imagine that I will take sick leave until 36 weeks if they are going to force me in.

I've heard that they can also suspend you on medical grounds ( full pay) if they don't have a job to for you. I think that option is unlikely as there's always work to do be done!
