Has anyone been able to have a routine check up yet? I've had a problem with a crown and I'm worried that I'm going to lose the tooth underneath if it doesn't get seen soon. It's sensitive to hot and cold, tender when I bite down and I've got a metallic taste (which I've had on and off for weeks, no change to how food tastes or my sense of smell!).

I phoned my dentist and they made a note and will contact me when they are open again.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do in the meantime to try to limit the damage?

My crown came off two months ago. I was told by the dentist (NHS) at the time that they wouldn’t see me until it was safe to do so, totally understandable. However, I have rung them 5 times since then for advice as bits of the tooth are now breaking off and I am going through a tub of temporary filing a week. The gum around the tooth is now starting to hurt. They have just rung to offer me an appointment this afternoon which I can’t take as I am working and work. They’ve said it’s that or wait till the end of September! I am just so fed up. My brother in law works for a dental laboratory and was told by many of the dentists they do work for that they are not seeing many NHS patients as the government are still paying for them not to see them. In the meantime my tooth keeps breaking off and cutting into my tongue, I just don’t know what to do!

Feeling really fortunate reading these posts

My DC filling fell out a few weeks ago ,called at 10am, was given an appointment same day at 2pm for a replacement filling ( no drilling needed )

This is Scotland NHS dentist

Also @AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii DC were seen last month by Specsavers , I called up to say their eye sight had deteriorated and they were booked in for a test under “ change of vision “. They are not doing routine exams but if you have a specific reason they’re good at accommodating you.
DC had new glasses within a week

Been really happy with our local services.

Afternooninthepark what happened? Could you not have taken time off work - after all it was a medical issue? I ask because I have the same problem of a crown fallen off, and can't get through to my dentist (nothing but barely audible recorded messages).

just go private as a one off.

No, they haven’t done routine check ups here since March.

One of my children has a condition (back teeth grew without enamel) where they need high strength fluoride applied at check ups and soon they will have missed three check ups. The dentist won’t see them and says they have no idea when they’ll be able to :(

I had a checkup last week, and a scale and polish - NHS patient in Scotland. I was also in over the summer to get fitted for a new night-guard for teeth clenching.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat I'd keep calling the practice to check what's happening, is there a wait list, how long, are they offering private apointmenrs - there seems to be a huge variety in provision across the country.

I ended up booking an appointment with a private dentist at a different practice. I wouldn't see my previous dentist privately on principle. It turns out I need two fillings, one which may end up as a root canal and crown thanks to a bodge job from a previous NHS dentist so I'm glad I did, although I can't really afford it.

All work being done by ours since August except cleaning as it would
potentially transfer any covid to dentist very speedily

CrunchyCarrot · 02/02/2021 08:11

I need a couple of small fillings doing, but I have to have them done under sedation as I have hyperacusis and can't bear the sound of the drill. At the moment it's about a 9 month waiting list (NHS), I saw my own dentist in September so I figure I still have quite awhile to wait.

Just managed to get a routine check up for the end of month for myself and two kids. Worried, as last one was in October 2019. My youngest is in need of treatment on her front teeth, will see what dentis says. Some aspects of how dental treatment is often done in UK are still very unusual to me. Was planning to go to my home country in August and paying privately but do not think it will happen((
