McDonalds Branch Closed Due to Outbreak

McDonald's in Stockport has had an outbreak of coronavirus and has temporarily closed:

I suppose this could be helpful towards Boris' war on obesity Grin but I am concerned at this with the local restrictions that are in place too. My DD1 tonight is really upset and just wants things to be back to normal but it seems like that is a long way off. We are in greater Manchester (just) and it's apparent on our small street that no one is concerned and they are going about their business as usual, family popping in for a few hours, other visitors, play dates. As a shielded it really pisses me off but I'm gritting my teeth as best I can. All I can do is protect myself and my family as much as possible.

I am thinking places being closed due to outbreaks will be a fairly regular thing now. I have very little hope of schools being back full time in 4 weeks, certainly in greater Manchester anyway.

It's shit for everyone and I feel pretty fed up about it all tonight.

I live near here and all day all over Facebook this was rumoured and people saying it was fake news etc etc then every mention of it has been deleted I presume due to legal reasons. It's not good and I feel the same. I think this won't be over here in this area for a long time

Lissy23 · 03/08/2020 21:23

@Cherryghost what do you mean by a long time? I live in this area and I’m really struggling. I need some light at the end of the tunnel.

Cherryghost · 03/08/2020 21:30

Sorry to hear you struggling Lissy I have days I'm totally done with everything but then I think it has got better since March just slower than I'd like. I think we have to take each day as it comes.
This is only my opinion but I think people have had enough and to have a bit of freedom for a brief while but then taken away with ridiculous rules like grandparents can only provide childcare in a park and not allowed in homes or gardens but you can go in pubs and theme parks that some people are not going to comply until it becomes obvious that stricter lockdown is needed.

SistemaAddict · 03/08/2020 22:12

A stricter lockdown seems inevitable unfortunately as cases have gone up again and people don't seem to think that they have any role to play in lowering the numbers.
I'm sorry you feel down @Lissy23 Thanks

This is a massive problem at the moment isn't it? Everybody is concerned about the rise in cases but many people don't see the need to adapt their own behaviour as it's somebody else that's at fault.

Not sure what can be done at this point to get people to comply if they're simply ignoring guidance.

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2020 12:00

Exactly. Look at the comments on other threads about eid celebrations with people saying there's no way they aren't going ahead with their big gatherings. My mum seems to think that things will be back to normal after 2 weeks but I don't know where she's got that from as last I heard it's being reviewed weekly with no dates set. I think last weekend might see an increase in a week or so. Whilst it's not enforced and most places are open then there's no chance of getting the virus under control imo. Which leads to schools not being able to open. Dd1 will be devastated if that is the case. Dd2 starts secondary next month and it will be horrible for her if she can't do that.

I feel thoroughly fed up about it all.

I completely understand people wanting to be able to connect with immediate family due to isolation etc. But ‘everyone needs to make their own risk assessment’ now compromises throwing big events, meeting up with friends in pubs/restaurants, with zero attempt at social distancing. That is incredibly selfish and I don’t think the message has gone that we need to continue to modify our behaviour if as a society, we want the vulnerable to be taken into account (I’m thinking schools which can only be properly open if transmission is sufficiently low).

SistemaAddict · 04/08/2020 12:08

Opening pubs was a daft idea. It was so obvious that people wouldn't follow the guidelines once they'd had a drink or two. Places like McDonald's are always heaving and the queues would be out the door if they had to SD. It's batshit how they have done things.

Agree on the rest, but have to add I went to McDonalds yesterday lunchtime and was very impressed with their procedures. Organised, distanced queue outside. When it was your turn to go in you got directed to the appropriate area depending on how you were paying. Ordering screens used, plenty of sanitiser etc and really well organised system for collecting your order. Take out only. So it can be done, but it takes work and I guess committing to it, which sadly we’re seeing less and less of.

Pubs haven't really been a problem though, because most people are complying with social distancing. A few have taken appropiate action ie closed temporarily when necessary, but that doesn't mean all pubs should be shut. The problem has been identified as mainly being transmission via contact between households , not pubs or McDonalds. This isn't guesswork, it's established via contact tracing. This is similar to when people in Weston tried to blame visitors for causing a cluster of cases in the local hospital, when in fact it was staff who introduced it and caused the spread.

I've read a branch in the midlands closed too. And now Aberdeen closing pubs and restaurants. It's not good.
