Quarantine confusion!

So this is the situation...

Currently in a country where you have to quarantine on return for 14 days.

Upon return, how do it work if either A) I then fly to a country that doesn't require quarantine and is on the 'ok to travel to' list during the 14 days or B) travel directly to a non-quarantine country for 4-5 days and then onto the U.K.

If that makes any sense!

You should quarantine.

KitchenConfidential · 03/08/2020 19:57

Yep it means you’re pretty damn selfish trying to find a loop hole

Ffsnosexallowed · 03/08/2020 19:57

You should do the right thing and quarantine

2155User · 03/08/2020 20:00

Sorry, should've made it clear, not trying to 'find a loop hole'

Already had 2 holidays booked. After they were both booked, one turned into a quarantine destination and the other has stayed the same and I'm not sure if I can still go on the 2nd holiday.

All websites say differing things

The virus doesn’t infect you in Spain and then go ‘actually you are now ok France so I’m going to disinfect you!!’

Anyway gov website states this

You will need to self-isolate if you visited or made a transit stop in a country or territory that is not on the list in the 14 days before you arrive in England.

So both scenarios you are proposing both would still require you to isolate on return to the U.K.

@BrieAndChilli

Thanks, fully aware the virus doesn't just pick and choose countries.

But I'm not sure say if I fly to a country for 5 days that isn't on the quarantine list, whether I then isolate for 14 or 9 days?

Definitely still need to quarantine. And even if you didn't have to, I would.

labyrinthloafer · 03/08/2020 20:08

Ok, so I think you need to look at what country b requires for those returning from country a.

But I think if you go a - b - a - UK you quarantine 14 days in UK, if you go a - b - UK you quarantine 14 days from when you get to b, unless b has different rules re. country a in which case you can't go to country b.

PatriciaHolm · 03/08/2020 20:13

The regulations specifically say "You’ll still need to self-isolate if you’ve visited or made a ‘transit stop’ in the previous 14 days in any country that is not on the list. A ‘transit stop’ is a stop where passengers can get on or off a coach, ferry, train or plane. Your ticket should say if a stop is a transit stop.
The 14 days begin from the date you left that country"

So say -

You are in Spain. It is Day 1. On day 2, then you go to France, stay there for days 2-6.

Day 6, you return to the UK.

Technically, you now need to isolate for 10 days in the UK. The days spent in France count for quarantine.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 03/08/2020 20:14

Well if you go on holiday to Spain, come back to,your home in the Uk, and then - well then nothing, because you can’t leave your house for 14 days.

But if you go on holiday to Spain and then go direct to France for 5 days and then home to the UK, I guess you’ve got 9 days quarantine to do?

MaggieFS · 03/08/2020 20:19

You can't go on trip B because you would be breaking the quarantine you need to take after trip A in order to do so.

Pp has answered that if you transit via a non quarantine country, you still need to quarantine.

2155User · 03/08/2020 20:24

@labyrinthloafer

Thank you, that is what I thought but you've put it better than me.

Flying from A-B-then UK. B does not require quarantine, A does

@PatriciaHolm Thank you for giving a very helpful and specific answer, and thank you to everyone else that helped!

Have you checked that B has no restrictions /quarantine requirements for people coming from A??

2155User · 03/08/2020 20:43

@BrieAndChilli

Thanks for checking. Yes I have, in fact I don't think many other countries have put the Canary Islands on the quarantine list, understandably so
