Just that
The end of last week , I think it was friday I started having a headache , thought nothing of it ,, warm weather and not drinking enough probably. Then I go to Brighton saturday morning overnight, funnily enough my legs felt achy that morning but I'd been on a long walk Thursday evening so just put it down to that .
This morning I threw up , numerous times and had to leave work. I came home and slept for 4 hours, this is very unusual.
This afternoon I've developed diarrhea and over the last hour I've felt hot and I'm coughing ( its wet tho not a dry cough ). Referring to a TAAT I didnt link diarrhea or vomiting with covid until I read it I just thought it was ..
Fever
Dry cough
Breathlessness
I've ordered a test which should come in 48 hours
This is the thing ... I might not even have coronavirus/ covid , I might just have a dicky belly .
I have 2 jobs and get no sick pay whatsoever for either. But took today of sick from job 2 as I was throwing up
Honestly in my situation would you ...
Carry on working until the test comes back with results THEN deal with it while carrying out vigorous hand washing and sanitizing , social distancing (then self isolate of course if positive ) OR self isolate now , it may come back negative then potentially have lost a weeks worth of money , waiting for test to arrive , waiting for courier to pick it up, then waiting for results all for nothing which I can ill afford .
In all honesty what would you do ?

but in my defence the covid thing might not be, so essentially I've lost 2 entire wages for perhaps nothing

But a vomiting bug isn't nothing. It's a vomiting bug, and if you spread that to colleagues they will then have to stay home, maybe take a coronavirus test themselves, and isolate until they get their results.

HoneyBee03 · 03/08/2020 19:52

Of course you shouldn't be going into work but I totally understand why you're debating it. If my DH has to take two weeks off work to isolate we can't pay our rent, so I get the worry.

Is it possible to pull in extra hours/overtime with your job? Could you get the test and then, if its negative, try to make up some of the hours you've missed? If its positive, work out exactly how much money you're short on, then work out what bills you can delay or see if you can borrow from somewhere to get by. Hopefully there's a way.

Chaotic45 · 03/08/2020 19:52

OP there really should be no question here.

I absolutely would find a way to cope without my wages. I had to for 12 weeks during lockdown because I could not work and was not entitled to and help.

Use food banks, neighbours, family and friends if you need to but please do the right thing.

I think you would feel horrendous if you knowingly put anyone at risk. Plus if anyone found out they would most likely think very badly of you.

I know it's hard, and will cause you difficulty but you will get through it.

Coldspringharbour · 03/08/2020 19:56

@GreyGardens88

The fact that you're considering going into work really says a lot about how the virus has managed to spread to virulently
Exactly.

OP please be responsible and don’t go in until you get the all clear. Hope you’re ok, and it’s just a bug. It’s a horrible position for you to be in. Look after yourself and feel better soon 💐

Argggghhneedclarity · 03/08/2020 19:56

The fact you get no sick pay is not your fault. Something should be put in place to cover sick days when you'll be losing so much... I feel for you... but DON'T GO IN

Hollyhobbi · 03/08/2020 19:59

Where I live if you have no transport or aren't well enough to drive yourself to a test centre, someone will come to your house and do the test there for you. Is there no option like that in the UK?

Redwinestillfine · 03/08/2020 19:59

Even if COVID wasn't a thing you still shouldn't be going in and spreading whatever it is you have. It's basic good manners.

Mischance · 03/08/2020 20:02

Isolate, isolate, isolate. Loss of income is as nothing compared to some vulnerable person dying.

Walkaround · 03/08/2020 20:07

Jesus. I’d have sympathy for the question if it was just a headache and legs feeling a bit achey after a long walk, but with a growing list of unpleasant symptoms, including diarrhoea and vomiting, with which you should never go to work, covid or no covid, I am pretty horrified you feel the need to ask. It sounds eminently possible it’s covid 19. I would feel horrendously guilty to have such a long list of symptoms progressing from one to the other, all of which have been linked to covid 19, and still be going into work.

Realitea · 03/08/2020 20:08

Please stay at home

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 03/08/2020 20:12

I can’t believe you would go into work with a sickness bug much less whilst waiting for a Covid test. It’s not just about you.

Of course you need to self isolate, then perhaps work on getting savings together as they are likely to be multiple times you may have to isolate going forward.

headshoulderskneestoes · 03/08/2020 20:12

Regardless of covid, you should NEVER go in to work until you are 48 hours clear of last symptom of D and V.

I hate to say this but the reason you have to ask this is reason enough for why as a country we can't get on top of this virus. It's shameful.

CovoidanceMechanism · 03/08/2020 20:15

I disagree with those who are criticising how you are thinking this through. I think it’s possible that they have forgotten you are actually ill and trying to think through a stressful and scary scenario.

I hope you feel better very soon, get a negative test result really quickly and find a way to manage without your lost income.

I have no doubt you will follow the guidelines, best wishes and sympathy 🌻

ilikeitwhenshegoesbabababababa · 03/08/2020 20:25

I do hope your test is negative, but really, considering going to work when you have d and v and have taken a COVID test... Jesus fucking Christ. People like you are the reason COVID has spread so virulently, and also the reason why 'normal' seasonal illnesses like flu and norovirus spread anyway. Don't be a fucking dickhead

Naillig222 · 03/08/2020 20:25

My workplace brought in full sick pay for covid symptoms. We usually only get a certain % when we are off sick. This scenario is exactly why they brought it in. People don't want to lose out on pay and will take the risk if they are unsure.

YABU to think about going in though. I know someone who vomited once and had a fever for a couple of hours and came back positive.

baldisbeautiful · 03/08/2020 20:27

I have an auto immune condition and a bout of norovirus would (and has in the past ) land me in hospital possibly in intensive care (not to mention what COVID might do to me). Please stay home and keep your germs to yourself

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 03/08/2020 20:29

@DramaLlama12

Ok ,I hear you and am listening but in my defence the covid thing might not be, so essentially I've lost 2 entire wages for perhaps nothing so its easy to say stay home. Put yourself in my shoes could you really lose a weeks wage from 2 jobs? But ok i get it . I'll let my manager know about the D&V
I get that and i sympathise, however please remember that a lot of shielding people now are back out of shielding too, and with shielding over are having to back to work. A lot of vulnerable people are back in society and your even considering going out mixing with people when you potentially have Covid?!

I hope you feel better soon.

lljkk · 03/08/2020 20:54

I hope you feel better soon, OP, and that the test comes back negative.x

KitKatastrophe · 03/08/2020 20:57

@Redwinestillfine

Even if COVID wasn't a thing you still shouldn't be going in and spreading whatever it is you have. It's basic good manners.
Agreed. You shouldnt go in to work when you have sickness and diarrhoea. Especially if you work in a customer facing role.
girlofthenorth · 03/08/2020 21:12

I'm sure you can get statutory sick pay for covid isolation now- check on the gov U.K. website

Jilljams · 03/08/2020 21:19

You shouldn’t be mixing with people when you have v&d, even if it isn’t covid. I’d be really cross if someone I worked with gave me a sickness bug because they failed to stay home.

A relative of mine died from Covid. Their only symptom in the early stages was vomiting. No cough or fever.

PeacockBlues · 03/08/2020 21:30

Covid aside it would be incredibly selfish to go to work within 48 hours of a sickness bug.

It's awful losing money but sheesh, does no one else matter? I'm sure the colleagues you'd pass it too can ill afford the time off either.

Ohfrigginghellers · 03/08/2020 21:35

Absolutely not carry on working. I am sorry you don't get paid sick pay but you can't seriously think it's ok to go into work? Even if it wasn't Covid you still have sickness and diarrhoea which you could pass on to everybody else.

quiteathome · 03/08/2020 21:49

What are your jobs? Can you do any of either of them from home? And realistically you have to wait for your test results. Which is rubbish, but that is life for now. (It is entirely possible you have a different virus, so only need to take the 48 hours off)

DramaLlama12 · 04/08/2020 10:11

Can't work from home , I clean an office and the second job is sales / retail
