Masks which don't make you feel you are boiling alive?

I've made my own cotton ones but they are so hot and sweaty. I'm loathe to use the disposable ones for environmental reasons (although can someone tell me if we wear them, take them off at home and quarantine them for 48 hours is there any reasons we can't wear them again?)

Anyone found the gold standard of bearable masks yet?

Just to be clear I will always wear them, despite the boiling/sweaty face problem but just want to find a better alternative!

Thanks

I was hoping visors would be acceptable, but I was scared off by the Switzerland issues. Using a filter in the cotton masks seems to help a lot, but I haven't yet tried them for a very long period of time. The disposable ones are comfy, but I don't like the waste. Dust masks are effective, but get hot.

These are freaking fantastic

Expensive but then again they are washable and I figure over the next 12 to 18 months will be cheaper in the long run

Easy to breath, effective in purpose, and don’t sit flat on face

People in boiling hot countries cope with masks, people working in hospitals cope with masks, wearing any mask to go round a shop or on a bus or train ride should be bearable in British temperatures!

I’m sure if you turned the air on off in those hot countries they’d start complain about the masks

The plumo linen ones are good imo.

Marks and Spencer’s ones are really lightweight cotton and don’t have the folds that mean your mouth is covered by multiple layers. The best ones I’ve found. They are 5 for £7.50 and a plain navy colour. Would definitely recommend.

I just wear the disposable ones and reuse as much as possible, I got 100 off Amazon for about £8 though they are probably more expensive now, if it is a cooler day and I am popping here and there I wear a Seasalt Handyband which I just pull up. All the Asian countries wear the disposable ones and have been doing so for years so they all can’t be wrong

People referencing aircon in hot countries don't seem aware that many poorer people don't have aircon. They still wear masks.

I've had a few masks and I hate all of them, itchy, hot and disgusting.

Took a punt on one from eBay and it's honestly so much better. Made from cotton but it feels like a silicone or something, it has a nice peak to keep space over your nose and mouth and it's really cool and comfortable. I still hate wearing them but this has made it a bit better.

I'll post the link but it's not my company and I'm not affiliated to it at all.

I started making mine with cotton, then jersey .. all too hot!

Finally found the answer with Linen, so much better

I saw someone in the supermarket today with a mask made from Harris tweed. Must have been unbearably hot for the wearer. It did look very stylish though.

Hah! Aircon! Try going to a hot country and going into a restaurant or any workplace actually used by locals instead of tourists. I've lived in Turkey my whole life with most summers 40+ degrees without having a single house or workplace with airconditioning, even the crazy crowded buses weren't airconditiend until recently. Masks are required and everybody wears them in boiling hot shops, restaurants and work places for their 12 hour shifts, even the hospital we spent most of the last month in wasn't air conditioned.

I love this website but the dramatic whinging about the heat every summer and the cluelessness about "hot countries" and how they're "built for it" is driving me insane. People dont seem to even consider that alot of hot countries are also a lot poorer than the UK and air conditioning is a big luxury for most

Suffolk?

HeIenaDove · 07/08/2020 15:23

No North Essex.

I have family in that area - sounds like it's going to be a hot one! Good luck.
