Hospital admissions

I’ve been looking at the numbers of infections daily going up, but I’ve not seen anywhere where the hospital admission figures are published.

How many of those testing +ve are asymptomatic and have been tested as part of track and trace?

I think I’m wording my question very badly so apologies.

What I’m trying to get my head around is if we’ve more infections, are the hospitals still overrun?

Following as im wondering this too. Its all well and good telling us we have X number of cases a day but if these are asymptomatic/people who (pandamic aside) wouldve otherwise gone to work then to me this is different from X number of cases who are bed bound and would cause society to collapse if everyone got it. Because we are told this is what would happen if lockdown is lifted too quickly.

No, the hospitals are not overrun. Hospital admissions are still falling, two days ago there were about 870 people in hospital due to Covid in England (95% less than at the peak).
Follow @UKcovid19stats on twitter. I believe the data source is nhs England (and Wales etc) but it's explained more clearly.

The figures are here.

coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/healthcare?areaType=nation&areaName=England

It's better to search by the individual nations because England updates often but I've noticed that Wales abs Scotland are less frequent.

Admissions remain low. That could be because there is a lag between cases rising and admissions, because younger people are getting the infection mildly, or because better testing is picking up more mild or asymptomatic cases.

Infections are raising which is worrying but no where near at where they were at the peak, the fear is that if they keep rising then we will have the problem we had in March so we need to stop the growth but the absolute number of daily infections at the moment isn’t that many and no where near enough to overwhelm hospitals so no admissions not really worrying or concerning yet although they would become so if infection rates continue to grow.

It takes approximately 2 weeks from infection to symptoms (if not asymptomatic) and then approximately another for them to need hospital treatment (if at all). So admission rates can be low whilst transmission rates are high. Also I think (hope) that treatment is being given earlier and is more effective than at first, so with a bit of luck hospital admission rates should be lower than last time.

Sorry that should read another two weeks.

Thank you all.

I will definitely pick up that twitter account.
