Hasn't everyone broken the rules at least once?

I'm not (intentionally) stirring, but genuinely curious. I come across so many people who say, "I've followed every rule" but has anyone actually, literally, done this? I struggle to imagine that anyone can have complied with the letter and spirit of the regulations every minute of every day, since 23 March. Even if it was something as benign as going to the supermarket for non-essentials or going out for an extra, non-necessary walk.

Hmm?

I think it’s interesting how attitudes have changed. I recall being very nervous popping out to buy jist wine and nibbles early on - worried what I’d say if I got stopped.
I also did report an 11 a side football match going on behind my home in the second week of lockdown - which I now can’t quite believe that I did.
I think it depends - my parents literally haven’t left the house except for a couple of times running the car around the block.

DamitJanet · 01/08/2020 18:28

To the best of my knowledge I have not broken the rules at all, and have no intention of doing so. I am always quite a ‘rule person’ though, plus have a health condition that makes me slightly more vulnerable whIch is likely part of it.

Billyjoearmstrong · 01/08/2020 18:29

Not once here. None of us. We’ve all been very strict. But I am in the last stages of what has been a high risk pregnancy for bother me and the baby from the start. So it’s not been worth it.

Apart from me going to the hospital twice a week, we’ve only been in the garden since March (Dh and the kids). We’ve always had shopping delivered with no problems here.

OverTheRainbow88 · 01/08/2020 18:32

Hmmmm, yes! I let my 4 year old go cycling with his buddy during lockdown, parents
Came to our garden before “allowed”, went into a playground before officially opened
( well BOjo said open the council hadn’t got round to unlocking them), went for walks with a friend during lockdown, went into parents house before “allowed” probs more!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/08/2020 18:32

We have. But I know my neighbour hasn’t, she won’t leave her house. It’s affecting her mental state dreadfully, I really feel for her.

Jourdain11 · 01/08/2020 18:32

We've not been serial rule breakers by any stretch of the imagination. But if you think about all the "recommendations" and count them as rules, like not using unnecessary online booking slots and so on... it seems to me that it would be impossible to abide by everything. Some of it is contradictory for starters!

Me, genuinely. But I'm a bit of a wimp

MorningManiacMusic · 01/08/2020 18:33

Nope. But I'm in Italy and the rules were extremely clear and vigorously enforced at a time when we were the lab rats of Europe.

To be fair, I can't quite believe there was an 11 a side football match going on behind your house in the second week of lockdown. They were asking for trouble! Wink

Oh please! Anyone who put crisps/biscuits/squash into their trolleys during lockdown broke the rules (only go out for essential shopping)

I hate this "holier than thou" attitude.

DianaT1969 · 01/08/2020 18:36

I have followed the rules.

CodenameVillanelle · 01/08/2020 18:37

Yes I have
I'm working at home, social distancing etc but I've met up with family and stayed overnight in their house with other family members (more than two households)
I've hugged my family and had sex with my boyfriend who was stuck in Europe for 5 months. I've hugged my friends when they came to a barbecue for my birthday (the ones who wanted to hug, some didn't)
I'm staying away from others as much as I can, but I missed my family and my boyfriend and I wanted to feel loved on my birthday. At least that's not going to happen again.

Qasd · 01/08/2020 18:38

The guidelines yes we stayed at my in-laws last weekend we didn’t hug or anything but no way were we two meters apart at all tunes their house isn’t that big!! I assume most are not 2 meter social distancing with friends and family now certainly in pubs and restaurants between tables yes but not at tables few places have a table big enough for two people to properly social distance.

DianaT1969 · 01/08/2020 18:38

I didn't notice the silly but in the OP about non-essentials.
Shops that sold non-essential goods were closed. If you picked up a magazine or chocolate bar in the supermarket, along with bread and milk, you were not endangering the lives of others.

Flaxmeadow · 01/08/2020 18:39

Something I've noticed is how easy it is to forget to put a mask on when walking into a shop. I've done this a couple of times now. I'm sure others must have too

I think it would help us to remember if there was some signs to remind us by the door

Jourdain11 · 01/08/2020 18:39

I think technically not... tptb said buying non-essentials would be allowed in the context of your essential shop. What would be Against The Rules would be going out to buy only the crisps and squash 😃

I don't think we were actually supposed to survive on owt but thin gruel and turnips.

QueenBlueberries · 01/08/2020 18:41

I'm usually very uncomfortable when breaking the rules, but I have broken the rules many times. By buying non essential food, going to the shops twice if I'd forgotten something, I even 'broke' onto our local golf course to go for walks in the evenings when it was shut. Very naughty.

Fairenuff · 01/08/2020 18:42

I have followed the rules.

I think it's strange that some people think no-one did.

Ah, I resent that! It wasn't a silly bit! 😉 It was still perfectly possible to do an entirely non-essential shop at a supermarket or corner shop, and I bet a lot of people did.

I went into my mum's house before it was allowed and she came into mine.

I've visited a friend and did not social distance.

My son stayed over at his grandparents for four consecutive nights in order to help me with with my newborn when my husband was working.

We once drove half a mile nearer to our local river for a different walk location as it was too far for our son.

Sometimes our walks exceeded an hour.

Cheesecake53 · 01/08/2020 18:52

We have.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 01/08/2020 18:56

I have.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/08/2020 18:56

I haven't followed all the rules.

cliffdiver · 01/08/2020 18:57

I followed the guidance.

Still caught COVID!

Most probably from one of my pupils, many of whom had not been following the guidance.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 01/08/2020 19:00

By that I mean I have broken some rules.
