Would you allow your parents to visit?

My parents live in Derbyshire, and we are in Carmarthen. In Wales you are able to form a bubble with one other family. We haven’t done this yet and haven’t seen my parents since before Christmas. They are due to visit us tomorrow (will involve an overnight stay). The announcements today have made me feel uneasy though. Would you be happy to allow this visit to go ahead?

Are either of you in the newly restricted areas? If not then go ahead

PaperCastle · 31/07/2020 21:30

No, they are in the midlands. It’s just made me worry that I don’t actually know how many cases there are at the moment where they live, and I know were we are cases are still very low. My Dad also works 3 days a week in a factory, so thinking there is risk from that too. I was much more relaxed until Boris talked about second waves and restrictions etc.

covid.joinzoe.com/data#daily-new-cases?utm_source=App

I don't know if this only works if you have the app but you can see how many cases are where you live, if you can't do it without the app then on me if you want and I'll look

Ilikewinter · 31/07/2020 21:43

Yes I would, if you dont see them tomorrow who knows what will happen in the future, a wider spread lockdown and you might not have to opportunity

Thanks for the link. Blimey.

imamearcat · 31/07/2020 21:44

There aren't many cases in Derbyshire. I think you will be fine.

PaperCastle · 31/07/2020 21:45

Thanks for the link.

Where my parents live it’s roughly 800 people per million

Where we live it’s roughly 400 people per million.

So cases are higher there and there is about double the risk of them being infected/ infectious compared to where we are.

Personally like this link-breaks it (positive tests) down by local authority

I would (have) but none of us have underlying health conditions and we wfh.

PaperCastle · 31/07/2020 21:52

It’s my dad working in a factory with (probably) not the greatest social distancing. But no one is in an at risk group. On our side we all work from home. And I want to see my family before kids go back to school and life gets harder in September.

@PaperCastle Attached map is useful for England. Breakdown by quite small areas with any area with 3 or more positive test results in the week 20-26 July shaded blue, and you can click to see number of cases. Areas shaded white may have no cases or one or two, as the data isn't provided for those. Derbyshire generally looks pretty good, but some cases in Buxton. Will your parents be driving to yours?
