My teenager has a semi repaired cleft palates and has had extensive surgery ( as a baby) for Pierre Robin Sequence. Can he do a standard Covid test does anyone know? He’s developed a cough and I want to get him tested

Similar situation here. DC has had palate extension surgery and could still have the attaching skin there. They will cut it at bone graft of it is still there. I am not poking around at the back of her mouth! I read that they can do two nasal swabs instead in some cases. Have you tried asking on the clapa Facebook group?

The recommendation for an uncooperative child is to do two nasal swabs instead of the throat swab, so I'm sure you could do the same. They say it's less reliable (as in, more likely to get an 'inconclusive' result) but you haven't got anything to lose by trying it.
