Tesco Vulnerable Slots

Didkdt · 26/07/2020 00:12

During my shielding Tesco were the first supermarket to help me, so this isn't a criticism just a heads up
Like all supermarkets are supposed to, Tesco are preserving vulnerable slots for home delivery but as of 3/08 the cost will go up to £4.50.
I suspect it's a reflection of the actual cost of helping us out.

Fair enough I guess. I agree they have been excellent with shielding slots and have won my loyalty.

MrsVMorgan · 26/07/2020 08:15

We’ve been paying anywhere from £3-£7 for our delivery slot each week so £4.50 seems about in the middle Smile

Wankerchief · 26/07/2020 08:18

I think its fair.
They are a business, This has been going on since march. Delivery costs.

I say this with two shielding people in the house

chelseahotel · 26/07/2020 10:40

You can get a delivery pass using your clubcard points - so effectively free delivery as much as you want. I've done this for years.
Though actually Tesco were not first to help me out and their vulnerable slots are 8 hours. If you have a delivery pass they let you book 4 weeks ahead so you can at least get a 1 hour slot.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 26/07/2020 11:41

I think £4.50 to not have to go out and shop is very reasonable. They need to cover the costs of pickers, drivers, fuel, vehicles etc so a bargain when considered.

Didkdt · 26/07/2020 12:40

I didn't say it wasn't good value on just letting people know it's an increase. We were getting slots for £2 so some people may be surprised

OP posts:
tobee · 28/07/2020 02:24

I wouldn't mind so much if the slot was less than 8 hours wide!

NervousInYorkshire · 28/07/2020 02:25

Yep; on the other hand, all normal slots seem to be that price too - may as well use those if they're available...

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/07/2020 03:06

All of Tesco's slots will have an hour long window. Tesco is now having a flat rate of £4.50 for all of it's slots/customers. As shielding is being 'paused' as the start August (in England), one's health status is deemed irrelevant.

I've got a Tesco delivery booked for this evening and the delivery slot cost £3.50.

The Tesco delivery saver is a great option because if you don't use the full value of it, they send vouchers to compensate you, so you don't lose out.

isabellerossignol · 28/07/2020 03:16

Oh, sorry, I think I might have misunderstood. Did you mean a flat rate from 1st August?

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/07/2020 03:18

@isabellerossignol
Yes- it starts in August.

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/07/2020 03:23

3rd of August to be precise.
Orders from shops are £4.50, orders from 'customer fulfilment centres' Confused are £5.50 and c&c will be £1.50
I'd link if I could, sorry! Smile

Is2020OverYet · 28/07/2020 04:42

They are standardising the cost across all slots as demand is currently the same across the day. So no more £2 slots but no more £7 slots either.

With so many people working from home I imagine their old pattern of being busy during weekends and evenings has changed.

I'm shielding too, but have paid for a Delivery Saver pass for several years which means I don't pay that much attention to the slot cost.

Egghead68 · 28/07/2020 06:48

They’ve made the extremely vulnerable slots £5.50 like the normal slots in my area but they are for 8 hours instead of 1 hour. Everyone will revert to the normal slots (there are loads) so shielding slots will basically stop.

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 08:02

Waitrose does free delivery over £60 (bt tends to be a bit more expensive food I guess)

Iceland does free delivery over £35 and often gives discounts..if you have a freezer.

In case any of these might be helpful.

Morrison still seem to be doing their food boxes which are next day and free delivery I think.

We have just started getting a milk and bread delivery with Milk and More which looks useful.

Zombot · 28/07/2020 08:16

The priority slots are still cheap next week in my area, £1.50 seems to be the standard rate

Egghead68 · 28/07/2020 08:17

I’ve been using Waitrose as well as Tesco during lockdown and they have been excellent too.

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 09:27

In some areas, Waitrose do a rapid delivery (same day) and they made that free also to priority- just mainly in London I think though not sure.

Yes they have been really good, one hour delivery slot too

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 09:27

The ones I mentioned are free in general not just for priority btw, so shouldn't be changing...

Is2020OverYet · 28/07/2020 09:52

They are still useful if you find there aren't any normal slots left. I'm working from home as I'm shielding so it doesn't really matter what time of day they come, and they text you that morning to say roughly when they'll deliver.

@Orangeblossom78
Hi, I opened a milk and more account in March, but haven't used them yet.
Can you tell me what time your order gets delivered, and what arrangements are there for delivery of you aren't up yet? Or do you have to get up to receive the delivery? Thank you, and apologies if these are daft questions!Smile

JanewaysBun · 28/07/2020 12:59

If you take the right slot you can get sainsbos to deliver for 50p. I never pay more than £1/1.50 for a delivery

Our milk gets delivered anytime between about 2am and 7am. Milk and More leave it in our milk crate which is in a shady place. They come in an electric milk float so no noise, only notice them if I happen to be awake. It's always really cold when I bring it in. Brilliant service, laughing at having to get up to receive it!

Orangeblossom78 · 28/07/2020 14:20

I have not had ours yet, it is also Milk and more, but it says it arrives from 4am.
