Testing a 2 year old

If anyone has had to do the coronavirus test for their toddler, can I ask how it went? DD has a mild cold, and along with it a bit of a cough, ie. she coughs a couple of times every hour or so. Nothing major, but I guess it counts as a new continuous cough, so I've booked her in for a test at a drive-through centre tomorrow morning. I'm just hoping it doesn't really upset her, as it sounds pretty unpleasant.

Both my toddler and baby have been tested many times. It went well. Our youngest didn’t notice, and my eldest (who can be quite sensitive) was treat well by staff. I work with the military, so DH dressed him in his army outfit and then he had to ‘stand still as the soldiers’ while they did it. We played it off as a test of whether he’d be distracted, just like the guards at the palace, and he was very proud of himself. We also bribed with ice cream promised afterwards. Now he’s used to it, no need for so many games, but great until he was settled into the routine.

However, we are not in U.K., so procedures may differ a little.

Have tested my four year old (nose only) using the home test. It wasn’t nice, had to hold him still while my husband did it as he started thrashing and screaming. But it was at least quick.

I had to do a test on my toddler sitting in the back of the car. You don’t have to do the throat swab for children if you can’t. I swabbed both her nostrils. She didn’t particularly like it but she did well. She was more scared of the weird car park and everyone in masks

I put peppa pig on my phone which distracted a little.

Got the results in 12 hours!

Thanks, we did it this morning but thunk DH caught her tongue with the swab, a d her nose was full of snot (she couldn't blow it beforehand), so I wouldn't be surprised if it comes back inconclusive.

I don’t think they come back inconclusive now do they? It will just be negative

They can come back inconclusive if they don’t have the required sample in sufficient quantity, at which point you’ll be asked to retake the test. I’m glad it went okay, hope she’s feeling better!
