Covid and weight

There’s lots of talk about being overweight increasing your risks of a worse dose of Covid. I don’t know but I’m assuming that the risk rises along with weight so if someone is morbidly obese their risk is higher? My BMI is 26 which puts me just in the overweight category so I’m not sure if my weight is a factor or not? I’m trying to lose weight but am going through menopause so it’s not easy!

Yes, the risk is related to how overweight you are - I saw a graph earlier today, but unfortunately I can’t find it now.

With a BMI of 26 the effect was not that great, so try not to stress about it. Eat healthy, be active, make sure you get your vitamin D. And of course follow all the SD rules.

Morbidly obese (which I am) multiplied the risk by 4.

As a PP said, the risk is proportional to how overweight you are and a BMI of 26 is only marginally overweight. However, there was a Chinese study which found that people with a BMI of 24 - 28 had a higher risk of severe illness than those with a BMI under 24, so it's still worthwhile continuing your weight loss.
