C19 study app asked me to get tested

I have been using the Covid Symptoms Study app covid.joinzoe.com since the beginning of lockdown reporting how I feel every day
Yesterday I've started developing a sore throat and feeling slightly lightheaded, no temperature or cough, etc.

I've set this on the app and today I've got an invite via email on getting tested even if I don't have the usual symptoms. Been asked to request a test as "keyworker" (which I am not) on the Gov website.
Did anyone have a similar experience? They clarify the fact they want to me to get tested is not necessarily because I've got it but because the specific symptoms I have entered ( which are typical of a cold).
I am going to get tested shortly, even if it feels quite surreal.

Aren't they doing this to build evidence of whether( and which) other symptoms are also early markers for Covid? The addition of loss of smell / taste came from similar testing prompted by the Zoe app, I believe.

I’ve been requested do this twice. They are requesting it so they can see if other things could be a symptom of CV.

I was asked and got tested, I think it's a great way to contribute to research, also so you know what testing involves if you need it again or if your DC do.

wherestheotherone · 25/07/2020 14:41

Yes I was asked and went once. If you have been reporting feeling ok for a while then they ask you to go. Sore throat, headaches or sinus issues seem to be the big ones.

yeOldeTrout · 25/07/2020 14:42

presumably most ppl being tested don't have it

leafeater · 25/07/2020 14:42

Yes, me too. I did a drive in test when requested.

suze28 · 25/07/2020 14:44

Same here with symptoms of a persistent headache. I'm a teacher and this was back in May so I went to a drive through and did the test. I had a negative result within 48 hours. Definitely get it done.

MarmiteCrumpet25 · 25/07/2020 15:00

I had a sore throat back in June and was sent for s test by the Zoe app - negative.

cathyandclare · 25/07/2020 15:05

I've been called up a couple of times, sore throat first time and muscle aches and fatigue the second. Both negative . The process was quick and easy, so it's worth doing it for the research contribution I think.

PaperMonster · 25/07/2020 16:24

I’ve been asked twice: neither time have I had the usual symptoms. Both times got a negative. Am anticipating another request as my symptoms haven’t disappeared!

rosesinmygarden · 25/07/2020 16:32

I've had the same. Very sore throat and the app got me to get tested as a key worker.

I got the test sent by post as I couldn't take time off work and it was negative. It's all part of a research study and doesn't necessarily mean they think you have COVID.

reallyconfus3d · 25/07/2020 16:38

Thanks all, I just got tested (went to a drive in centre)

Just done my 2nd with Zoe . Awaiting 2nd results. 2 through work (nhs) both negative. Antibody test through work positive (don't I know it) and had the random letter about home antibody test which I've replied to. Today is the first time in 7 weeks I've felt any type of normal (except breathlessness)
The more testing the better especially which new symptoms being reported.

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/07/2020 20:45

Just had my second through the app. Don’t think the first was done properly but I managed better this time.
Sore throat here too.
